LifeSite News

The "most widely read pro-life news service in the world" Urgently Needs Your Support
Report on progress of $5 Christmas campaign

By Steve Jalsevac

The results to our campaign so far have been disappointing, but first, let me quote John Smeaton, a board member of International Right to Life and director of Britain's Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.

At the recent International Pro-Life Conference in Toronto John emphatically stated:

"A lot of us wouldn't be able to work so effectively if not for the extraordinarily good work of LifeSiteNews, which is the most widely read pro-life news service in the world."

John-Henry and I frequently hear similar comments from leaders and activists wherever we go. Still, that has not yet translated into generating the funds needed to continue and to improve this work of pure dedication to truth.

We are grateful to those who have responded to the current appeal. However, the result to date has been underwhelming, especially considering that our website statistics verify tens of thousands of people read and rely on the LifeSiteNews reports every day.

There were 447,981 unique visitors to LifeSiteNews in November alone. That doesn't count the many thousands who view the daily news only by email and the republishing and quoting of our reports on numerous websites and in publications in many countries.

The fact that so far only 170 readers have responded with donations varying from $5 to $600 is puzzling and of great concern. Total donations are $7005. That pays for about 7 days of current LifeSiteNews operations.

We emphasize again, if everyone gave at least $5 our expenses would be met. $5 is easily manageable for everyone.

And to those who can give more, we really need your contributions as well. One donor arranged a recurring donation of $50 per month for the next year. Much appreciated. But so are the $5 amounts. They add up.

A few major benefactors would be also be a great blessing, to make up for all those who just don't realize that it costs at least $350,000 per year to operate LifeSiteNews. That does not include the funds necessary to implement any of the exciting improvements key supporters agree are needed.

Tuesday's new stories show once again the power of LifeSiteNews unique reports on the truth to readers who are willing to do something with such information.

The key to our effectiveness is that a large number of people read the stories and then many do their little part to act on them. All those little actions create big results.

Similarly, a small gift from the masses who read and rely on LifeSiteNews could also easily resolve our financial needs.

Please give $5 (we are genuinely grateful for that), or $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more - whatever you are able.

Expanding Our Hearts – Suggestions for a Happy Advent

In these difficult times, it can be very challenging to think of others and not just ourselves. Our personal struggles often keep our focus inward and not outward towards our brothers and sisters in Christ. If these words resonate with you, I would like to provide some encouragement to break out of this inward focus and consider our Christian obligations to love and serve one another….to read more, click HERE

Soul-searching in economic hard times

In the midst of financial crisis, Pope Benedict made a statement that immediately hit the headlines. Visit: The Mistaken Faiths of Our Age by FATHER ROBERT A. SIRICO

Economic hard times are always times of soul-searching. The Register felt it was important to look at the moral dimensions of the economic downturn and asked several prominent Catholic thinkers, "What sins got us into this mess, and what virtues are required to get us out of it?" Newsweek trashes the Bible in support of homosexual marriage

Newsweek is apparently committing itself to the gay agenda, deliberately and obviously promoting gay marriage in its issues of both November 29th and December 15th. One problem many Christians have in defending traditional marriage, of course, is that they have already given away the store by not just tolerating but approving contraception and divorce.

To the casual observer, it may seem that marriage may now be defined as a merely legal recognition of an emotional bond—the sort of emotional bond that may vary with cultural predispositions. And now Newsweek is eager to tell us that even the Bible takes this view. Two of our writers have already jumped in to debunk this claim: Diogenes in Rorschach exegesis: the bible as gay manifesto, and myself in Gay Marriage in the Bible?

Action Alert from AFA

Miller's article is one of the most biased and distorted pieces concerning homosexual marriage ever published by any major news organization: http://www.afa.net/Petitions/Issuedetail.asp?id=335

Theology of the Body

Two weeks ago we completed the 8 week series about Theology of the Body by Christopher West entitled " Created & Redeemed " at both Annunciation & St. Augustine parishes.

Below is a link to video # 7 of the series called, " A Living Morality ", which we believe, pardon the pun, is where the rubber hits the road.

We hope you will be blessed when you view this important teaching.

http://dev.annunciation-ottawa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=853&Itemid=154

This video is 58 minutes in length (48 minutes if you exclude the Q's and A's). IMHO, the teaching should be mandatory from Senior High School onwards in order to be able to confront the prevailing culture where narcissistic indulgence is the norm. Everyone regardless of his or her age group can profit greatly from it.

The whole series of eight DVD lectures is available for a limited time on the following site: http://dev.annunciation-ottawa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&sectionid=22&id=114&Itemid=154

Pro-life Corner

Pro-choice, anti-guilt: "In other words, pro-abortion radicals don't just want a country where abortion is free and easy, but where consciences are as well -- where a woman who gets an abortion is not only exempt from legal sanction, but also exempt from the natural moral reflection that, in a humane society, inevitably accompanies major bioethical choices. And to make that wish come true, they're willing to shut up anyone trying to tell women the other side of the story.—click on http://www.nationalpost.com/todays_paper/story.html?id=1050020

Fr. Tom Lynch (Priests for Life Canada) YouTube video

Before you get too busy with the upcoming Christmas Season, take a few minutes (37 to be exact) and watch Fr. Tom Lynch, National Director of Priests for Life Canada, online. Recently Fr. Tom spoke at the annual dinner of Hamilton Right to Life. We caught it on video. The title of the talk is: "The future of the pro-life movement and where we go from here". It's just amazing how Fr. Tom can sum up that topic in just 37 minutes.

Though it's on Youtube.com, you can see it better on our own website at: priestsforlifecanada.com/frtom110608.htm.

Now, we know that not everyone has high-speed internet, so we're not sure how well you'll be able to view the video online, so we have reserved a DVD copy of the talk for you. Just send us an E-mail and ask for the "Hamilton Right to Life Talk" and we'll send it to you at NO CHARGE. Send us your name and address and we'll get one out to you: priests@priestsforlifecanada.com.
