Little Black Book At Chapters - If you can't get the smut at Walmart, you can get it at Chapters Indigo.

Wonderful...just wonderful.

Friday, November 17, 2006
The Cockroaches Scatter When Light Hits at Walmart.
Well, now that the dust has settled a bit, a few remarks about the whole Walmart-Little Black Book Shakedown.

Firstly, all it took was the wife of a “nobody blogger” to start the ball rolling on getting the biggest retailer in the world to bend its business practice of selling smut. http://socon-or-bust.blogspot.com/

Because this issue is really starting to balloon, I have created a separate index page on my blog for it:

http://socon-or-bust.blogspot.com/2006/11/little-black-book-index-page.html

Lara and I thought the story would be the Ottawa Public Library and not Walmart, but hey, whatever works...

Also, for the media contacts on this distribution that are covering this story, you would be well served to read the index page for updated information on this story. The Little Black Book is a newer and somewhat cleaner version than the original version. Click above to read all about it.

1) Équité-Famille is looking to finance two very important projects. The first is to translate their very popular booklet on homosexuality into English from French. It is a quite expensive work (around $4 000). The book will be ready for November and distributed to several MPs to help them deepen their knowledge about homosexuality. The book brings recent scientific evidence that nobody was born homosexual, that homosexuality is not a fatality, that there is not more than 1 or 2% of the population in that condition, and that between 40 and 80% of those who seek help to quit homosexuality and reach heterosexuality have success. They are also preparing a one hour DVD in French about homosexuality. It should be ready within a year (October 2007). EF is looking for financial support to help them cover the costs of these two very worth projects.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Catholic Legate's Mark Bonocore will be featured live on Evangelical Radio show http://www.truthtalklive.com/ and also through its affiliate in North Carolina, 830 WTRU AM Radio. The show will air Wednesday August 30, 2006 from 5PM-6PM EST.

Mark will be on to discuss the recent use of the Church fathers by Evangelical scholars debunking the DaVinci Code, and why these Evangelical scholars are inconsistent in their use of the fathers.

Tag line from TruthTalkLive.com:

Why do modern-day Evangelicals accept the tradition of which books belong in the New Testament and who the authors of the New Testament were, but do not accept many of the ancient Church's formal doctrines which it clearly held PRIOR TO canonizing these Scriptures.

To illustrate this historical inconsistency (via the church fathers) lets specifically discuss the following:

a) the nature of Baptism; b) the nature of the Eucharist (Lord's Supper); and c) the nature of salvation --how eternal security was alien to the ancient Church.

[Conference] Second Phase of the Attack

Greetings everyone,

Now that the conference is over, we need to step up and start to promote the DVD and CDs of it all across the country.

If anyone is interested in doing this, please let me know.

All you need is access to the internet and/or a telephone.

Regards,

Dear friends we must keep praying!

Let's not forget to keep praying. As we can see, the conference was just the beginning of a lot of good things. We need to continue to be prayer warriors so that those who were moved listen to the Spirit's promptings to take action and bring the good news back to their parishes. This is a very exciting time!

So true Heidi. Especially, please pray to all of the Holy Fathers collectively for their intercession to The Lord.

International Law Threatens Home Schooling
Warns Home School Legal Defense

By Terry Vanderheyden

PURCELLVILLE, Virginia, May 25, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A home schooling association is warning that the U.S., and even more so other countries, faces the threat that home schooling may be deemed illegal due to international law.

The Home School Legal Defense Association's (HSLDA) Chairman and General Counsel, Michael Farris, warns that even though the U.S. has never ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the convention may still be binding on citizens because of activist judges.

According to a new "interpretation" of what is known as "customary international law," some U.S. judges have ruled that, even though the U.S. Senate and President have never ratified the Convention, it is still binding on American parents. "In the 2002 case of Beharry v. Reno, one federal court said that even though the Convention was never ratified, it still has an 'impact on American law'," Farris explained. "The fact that virtually every other nation in the world has adopted it has made it part of customary international law, and it means that it should be considered part of American jurisprudence."

Under the Convention, severe limitations are placed on a parent's right to direct and train their children. As explained in a 1993 Home School Court Report by the HSLDA, under Article 13, parents could be subject to prosecution for any attempt to prevent their children from interacting with material they deemed unacceptable. Under Article 14, children are guaranteed "freedom of thought, conscience and religion" - in other words, children have a legal right to object to all religious training. And under Article 15, the child has a right to "freedom of association." "If this measure were to be taken seriously, parents could be prevented from forbidding their child to associate with people deemed to be objectionable companions," the HSLDA report explained.

Farris explains that, in 1995, "the United Kingdom was deemed out of compliance" with the Convention "because it allowed parents to remove their children from public school sex-education classes without consulting the child". Farris argues that, "by the same reasoning, parents would be denied the ability to homeschool their children unless the government first talked with their children and the government decided what was best. This committee would even have the right to determine what religious teaching, if any, served the child's best interest."

Farris suggests that there are several solutions to the dangers presented by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child for Americans. "First, Congress has the power to define customary international law. It also has the power to modify the jurisdiction of federal courts. Congress needs to address this issue of judicial tyranny by enacting legislation that limits the definition of customary international law to include only provisions of treaties that Congress has ratified."

"Second, Congress could pass an amendment to the Constitution, stating explicitly that no provision of any international agreement can supersede the constitutional rights of an American citizen. Two such amendments have been proposed in Congress, but neither was ratified."

"Third, the specific threat to parental rights can be solved by putting a clear parents' rights amendment into the black and white text of the United States Constitution."

In countries like the UK and Canada, which have already ratified the Convention, it is less clear what measures can be adopted, although similar measures are likely possible.

STATES MUST PROTECT FAMILY FOUNDED ON MARRIAGE

VATICAN CITY, MAY 13, 2006 (VIS) - This morning in the Vatican, Benedict XVI received participants in the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Council for the Family, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its foundation. It was established by John Paul II on May 9, 1981.

Pope Benedict recalled how "the family founded on marriage constitutes a 'heritage of humanity,' a fundamental social institution; it is the vital cell and the pillar of society, and concerns both believers and non-believers. This is something to which all States must give great consideration because, as John Paul II liked to say, 'the future of humanity passes by way of the family'."

After highlighting how separation and divorce are currently on the rise, "breaking family unity and creating no small number of problems for children, the innocent victims of such situations," the Holy Father called for the stability of families to be protected. This, he added, "often means going against the tide," and requires "patience, commitment, sacrifice and the incessant search for mutual understanding." Married couples can overcome their difficulties and remain faithful to their vocation by "relying upon the support of God through prayer and assiduous participation in the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist. The unity and strength of families helps society to absorb true human values and to open itself to the Gospel."

Benedict XVI then went on to refer to the "extremely delicate subject" of "the respect due to the human embryo, which should always be born from an act of love and be treated as a person. Scientific and technological progress in the field of bioethics becomes a threat when man loses the sense of his own limitations and, in effect, aims to take the place of God the Creator." In this context, he recalled Pope Paul VI's Encyclical "Humanae vitae," affirming that "human procreation must always be the fruit of a conjugal act with its dual unitive and procreative significance."

"'Eros, reduced to pure sex," Pope Benedict continued, quoting his own Encyclical "Deus caritas est," becomes "a commodity, a mere thing to be bought and sold, or rather, man himself becomes a commodity. ... Here we are actually dealing with a debasement of the human body.' Yet thanks to God, many people, especially the young, are rediscovering the value of chastity, which appears ever more clearly as a sure guarantee of authentic love."

The Holy Father added: "The historical moment through which we are living requires Christian families to bear courageous and coherent witness to the fact that procreation is the fruit of love. Such a testimony will not fail to encourage politicians and legislators to safeguard the rights of the family. We know that there are increasing juridical measures authorizing so-called 'de facto' unions which, while refusing the obligations of marriage, still wish to enjoy the same rights. Moreover, at times it is even sought to arrive at a new definition of marriage, legalizing homosexual unions and giving them the right to adopt children."

The Pope concluded his address with an invitation to all dioceses to send delegations to participate in the Fifth World Meeting of Families, due to be held in July in Valencia, Spain."

FEEDBACK ON THE “HUMANAE VITAE 2006 – A New Beginning” Conference:

Quoting Dan Heffernan <dheffer@sympatico.ca>:

Hello everyone;

First I want to thank all who were involved for putting on such a great Conference. The Holy Spirit was there among us. I said to my
Brother Father Vince Heffernan that at the end of Benediction Saturday evening I felt so close to everyone in the room even though I only knew a handful of people there.

Now for my request: I am running for the position of State Warden at the Knights of Columbus Convention this coming weekend. The elections take place on Sunday morning and afternoon. I need much prayer cover! I have been in a spiritual battle for some time now, I am the Pro-Life Chairman for the Ontario Knights and I am sure the devil doesn't want me to win this election. Please pray for me for success!

Thanks to each of you and God Bless all of you!
Dan Heffernan

Thank you Steve and everyone for your kind comments:

Most of the praise, however, should go to Tony and Dianne. They were the real workers in this thing and they were the ones whose faith carried us through.

Thank you Tony and Diane!

I would like everyone to share your stories and thoughts about the event. I think we should write a little journal on what transpired during the conference. I am hearing lots of encouraging stories that I would like to get documented.... from real impacts on lifestyle changes...to talking statues...to angelic visitors.... let’s hear it all!

Regards,

John

Quoting Gonzalez.Steven@fin.gc.ca:

Now that the conference is over, I would like to express my deepest thanks to all of you for making this event possible. A special thanks, however, should be reserved for John and Tony.

John, this event would never have seen the light of day without your vision and determination. We are very blessed to have someone like you in our Archdiocese, someone who has leadership qualities and is not afraid to take the bull by the horns. Someone who's willing to take chances in order to shake the status quo. The rest of us feel compelled to follow your lead and jump on the bandwagon so that positive change can occur.

Tony, your hard work and wisdom have also guided this process from start to finish. We are grateful to have a man of such faith and joy on our side!

It took a lot of guts for John and Tony to make this event happen. May God bless you abundantly for stepping out in faith!

Quoting "Madeleine Thomson" 2maddee@rogers.com

How very blessed I have been to have the privilege of working alongside two men of such faith, integrity, trust and hope as Tony Liuzzo and John Pacheco. We must not forget that these two men have amazing wives who are the backbone of these men of faith. These couples emulate what true marriages are all about.
Without the love and support of their wonderful and prayerful wives Tony and John would never have accomplished what they did.

John, Lara, Tony and Diane I say thank you, thank you, and thank you for your "Fiat". May the Lord and His Mother bless you a hundredfold for your generosity and love for your brothers and sisters in Christ.

It is my prayer that many have purchased the CDs and DVDs of this conference with the intent to evangelize within their own parishes. We had an amazing panel of gifted speakers with a wealth of information and I believe Our Blessed Mother would like to see us share it with others.

This was truly "A New Beginning"...onward Christian soldiers!

HUMANAE VITAE CONFERENCE
Momentum is building for the most stupendous, glorious, and eventful conference in the history of Canada. The Holy Spirit is coming to town on May 12-14 to clean house. The fire of God is going to fall to heal, cleanse, restore, and empower the Apostles of the New Evangelization.

As I have been saying from the beginning, this is the conference that is going to change this country forever. I'm not kidding. I am dead serious.

We're going to pop contraception's balloon and keep popping it all over the country. The fallout of this conference will have reverberating effects all across this country. You and I are going to shake this country up and bring the Culture of Death and Sterilization to its knees.

On May 12-14, the forces of Life launch a major offensive on this country. The only question is: will you be there or not?

When you register, this is what you can expect:

- Talks by the best conservative commentator and broadcaster in Canada today, Michael Coren.

- Music by internationally known Catholic recording artists, David MacDonald and Dennis Girrard. David's conference theme song "Yes to Life" is sure to inspire our nation. Click here to listen: http://www.davidmacd.com/music/yes_to_life_by_David_MacDonald.mp3

- Talks by the foremost authority on the subject of contraception in the English speaking world, Dr. Janet Smith

- Holy Mass on Saturday night with special procession of the Holy Eucharist for healing and restoration to conference participants previously victimized by contraception.

- Talks by other prominent Canadian speakers and authors and other international speakers

- Mother's day Mass (special guest celebrant to be announced), brunch, and the Sacred Music Society from Toronto, the organization that peformed at World Youth Day in 2002 before John Paul II. (http://www.sacredmusicsociety.com). Their music will blow you off this planet and into a different world!

I hope to see you there. If you have not registered, you can really help us out by doing so now. Some people think we have large sponsors behind our conference, but we do not. We have a few people with a lot of faith who are willing to fund any shortfall from this conference out of their own personal resources. That's a big risk, folks. But we're not complaining because we firmly believe that God has led us to this point that started with the March4Marriage last year on Parliament Hill. But it sure would be great if we could count on your financial support at this time along the way to May 12.

Please register today. And I'll see you on the weekend of May 12-14 for a New Beginning for a new Canada!

You only live once then comes judgment. Make it count.

Important Conference Note:
Deadline for ordering meals for the conference is Mon. May 1 at Noon.
Participants registering after this date must find alternative arrangements for their meals. No meal tickets will be available at the conference.

I need at least 1 if not 2 managers for the Rosarium table at all times. We will be responsible for taking orders of the Conference's DVDs and CDs, as well as selling Steve and Janet's stuff.

I need to know who can help Friday and Saturday and at what times you are available on.

I also need a couple of people to collect meal tickets at the 3 meals

Sat. Lunch
Sat. Dinner
Sun. Lunch.

Regards,

john

HUMANAE VITAE CONFERENCE
This coming week, The Rosarium will be firing off its major promotional pitch for the upcoming Humanae Vitae Conference at Lansdowne Park May 12-14. We have started advertising on LifeSiteNews.com. To see our banner ad, please click on any news story they will be running. The banner will be at the top of the page. Here is what it looks like: http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/apr/06040304.html
Very classy, if you ask me! Don't you think?

We will also be taking out a full page ad in The Interim (April Edition) and The Catholic Register (in the Sun. Apr. 9 edition). We have printed 15,000 brochures, around 5000 fliers, 500 posters, and hundreds of other promotional materials and distributed them around Ottawa and across the country. We've done everything we can, and now we leave everything in God's hands. Please pray for the success of this conference to be the ignition point that wakes up the Church.

Here is the text of my speech at St. Maurice Parish this past weekend at the four masses:

Good morning everyone,

In December of 2003, another member of this parish and I started a little apostolate known as The Rosarium of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The purpose of this apostolate was to spread the good news of human life, and foster a healthy generosity to human life within the conjugal act of married people. Another purpose of our apostolate was to expose the biggest lie of the twentieth century. A lie expressed not with our lips but with our very bodies. The lie is otherwise known as contraception.

Our culture has become a culture of death because we first accepted the culture of sterilization. And today, we are experiencing the first hand affects of that lie. Divorce, casual sex, abortion, same-sex unions, euthanasia; all of it; find their foundation in the contraceptive act the act which says NO to human life.

On May 12-14 of next month - 37 years to the day our government endorsed contraception. Our Apostolate is sponsoring a conference at Lansdowne Park entitled “Humanae Vitae 2006 - A New Beginning”, to celebrate, both the Church’s perennial teaching on married love and to also to get truth out of what contraception has done to families, to women’s physical health and their dignity, and to our society.

Dr. Janet Smith from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit and Journalist Michael Coren of Crossroad Television will be two of our featured speakers throughout the weekend. The conference will be about education and empowerment; but also about repentance and healing.

Aside from the great speakers we have lined up, we will have meals provided, praise and worship, mass, and confession. This culminates with a Mother’s Day brunch and afternoon concert by the Sacred Music Society Orchestra of Toronto.

It is an event that will change the course of this country forever. And, the parishioners of St. Maurice can have a critical part to play in it.

As you exit, my assistants will be handing out conference brochures. If you are interested to register at this time, I will be in the Atrium by the Mark Mallet ticket table to accept registrations. If you are not ready or prepared to do so at this time, all that I ask you to do is to prayerfully read the brochure and follow the registration instructions on the back of it.

Please - for our country’s future and for our children, and as a tribute to St. Maurice Parish, come to the conference, and let’s turn this country around. Today is the anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II. Let us honour his memory by not just being against abortion, but being truly pro-life.
Thank You.

VM 334 The Lord is gracious to the weak and doubtful. Look at what the told me through Zechariah 8:11-13: But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days, declares the LORD of hosts. ***For there will be peace for the seed: the vine will yield its fruit, *** the land will yield its produce and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things. It will come about that just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you that you may become a blessing ***Do not fear; let your hands be strong***.

Hi all,

Are any of you familiar with a show on EWTN called Life on the Rock? It's a talk show aimed at a young adult crowd, and I watch it religiously :-) every week.

A couple of weeks ago, they announced that the next episode would be on same-sex attraction. I tuned in as usual, but saw that instead, they showed a repeat of a previous show, on a completely different topic. The week after there was a new show, and they mentioned that the last week's show had indeed been about same-sex attraction.

I e-mailed them, to find out why the show never aired here. I knew it was EWTN's decision and not Roger's Cable blocking out the show, because it was still a Life on the Rock Episode that got aired. I told them that the only reason I could possibly think of, was Canada's hate crimes legislation, never thinking that it would really be the reason. Guess what? It is.

Here's the response I received from EWTN.

God Bless,
G-

Dear Mr. G-,
I apologize that you didn't get the show that you were expecting. Due to the new hate crimes regulations in Europe and Canada, it is against the law for us to air shows whose main topic deal with same sex attraction. I would encourage you to purchase the dvd copy of the show through our EWTN Religious Catalogue. You might want to show it to your friends or family and maybe your parish as well. Here is the link to the page that sells past episodes (Stephen and Irene Bennett's show is on page 2).

In the future, if you see a show with that topic advertized, feel free to purchase it through the internet. We really appreciate your interest in this topic.
God Bless you, and keep on watching Life on the Rock!

I am very excited! Momentum for the “Humanae Vitae Conference” is building and great speakers and events have been added.

EWTN will be coming to film the March for Life and might stick around to film the conference! I have reserved a table for them.

The Holy Spirit is coming – have you registered yet?

Please check our website for all the latest news: www.therosarium.ca.

Let me call to your attention the following two exciting developments:

I contacted a Catholic web radio station and got them to send me a cheeky anti-contraception radio spot which I would like to air on CHRI. However, since we are already over our budget, we don't have the means to do so. If you would like to see this ad aired (along with an addendum on the conference details), please consider contributing. Click below to hear what the ad sounds like:

Also, we have decided to go all out and book the Sacred Music Society (www.sacredmusicsociety.com) for a Mother's Day performance. Included will be a 19 piece orchestra and their choir. It will be glorious and a fitting tribute to the Blessed Mother and all mothers of Canada. This concert is included in the registration fee.

For those who cannot attend the conference, we are also making it available separately from the conference fee. Come for brunch ($15/adult; $10/child). The concert is free. It is The Rosarium's tribute to the Blessed Mother.

Please, if you have not yet done so, show your support for our efforts and register for the conference soon, and more importantly do TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE CONFERENCE. We are taking a big financial risk for Our Lord and for our country. We are on the edge of a Life revolution in Canada. All we have to do is believe it, and the triumph shall be ours.

Believe it. And it shall happen.

Need to print out a poster check the attached Rosariumrevised.pdf file.

Greetings everyone,

I need help distributing Conference brochures and leaflets after all the masses at St. Maurice’s church, for the Apr. 9 weekend.

So that would mean:

Sat. Apr. 8 - 5:30 mass
Sun. Apr. 9 - 9:00 mass
Sun. Apr. 9 - 11:00 mass

Since there will be three exits, I need at least 9 people to cover all three masses. If you can help please email me at life@therosarium.ca and let me know, of course all of this is pending Fr. Galen’s approval.

My dear friends in Christ,

Don't forget to pick up your Mark Mallet Concert tickets. Mark is arriving on Apr.7-10 here in Ottawa and will be playing at various Catholic parishes around the City. For complete details, visit our webpage at www.maryvaleacademy.ca.

Read the following (LifeSiteNews.com) article on EWTN’s Explosive Growth in Canada by John-Henry Westen and Terry Vanderheyden. It really puts us to shame when one cloistered nun can move mountains because of faith, what’s our excuse? There is no excuse. Nothing happens because we don't risk anything; we don't risk our time, our money, or anything else – safety and comfort are our gods.

I loved this line: According to the New York Times’ best-selling book on her life by Raymond Arroyo, she retorted, “No, a budget is the devil’s handiwork. We live on faith.”

That's something for me to remember. That's for sure.

As I said before, EWTN is likely to have a table at the Conference and might even cover it for the station! Please pray that they do!

Ancient Portuguese proverb: "An earlier registration is better for John's nerves than a later one."
