The End of the Modern World
Romano
Guardini's books and teaching not only nourished the liveliest
segment of Catholic thought during the 1900's, they played a central
role in the intellectual formation of the current pope. Romano
Guardini was Joseph Ratzinger's great "master."
Perhaps
Guardini's most prophetic book is his1956 classic The End
of the Modern World was re-issued in 2001 by ISI books.
In this book Guardini predicted many of the evils that characterize
the world today. First Things Magazine described that book
in these tempting terms:
"Guardini
sees a new age coming. . . in which the fight between Christianity
and secularism will be sharpened and in which it will be possible,
if we have the nerve for it, to restore man's dignity and his
sense of place. The times will be dangerous, but Christians will
find the battle a "clean and open" one in which the
virtues – especially obedience, trust, courage, charity, humility,
and asceticism – will be their best weapons. Guardini's book is
more than a harsh look at our diseased condition, and quite the
opposite of a lament for times past. It is an urgent call to holiness,
an inspiring challenge, and an exceptionally important book for
a new millennium."
As
Father Richard John Neuhaus observed in his forward: "This
is not a book to read and then check off one's list of 'must reading.'
It is an engagement with a great mind and great spirit who will
settle for nothing less than a decision."
Click
HERE
to read Fr. Neuhaus’ forward to this book.
The
book isn’t readily available, but can be ordered via Amazon.com.
Chapter 8 (the final and most important chapter) can be read for
free by clicking Possibilities
of Action. It contains some very practical advice on how Catholics
should respond to with our modern threats.

Prayer Request
On Thursday July 15th, the Anglican
Catholic Church of Canada held a synod on Vancouver. During this
meeting, the members voted to endorse the Apostolic Constitution
Anglicanorum Coetibus, and to formally endorse our bishops'
petition to be received into full communion with the Roman Catholic
Church. Apparently things are going to move quickly
now - the Pope wants this up and running as soon as possible.
Your prayers, please.

To God be thanks!
I thought that some people might be interested in
reading the following talk by Bishop Robert Mercer, at the recent
Anglican Catholic synod in Vancouver. Bishop Mercer
was, for a number of years, very active in the pro-life movement
in Ottawa. In fact, it was because
of his involvement in the March for Life that I ended up being
received into the Anglican Catholic Church - and will now, God
willing, be able to continue my studies for the priesthood in
full communion with the Holy See.
It is our hope that within a short time the Anglican Catholic
Church of Canada, along with other parts of the Traditional Anglican
Communion, will be in full communion with our fellow Catholics.
Please pray for us.

Prayer Request
Hello
Everyone,
I
am writing to ask you for prayers for a young mum and her family.
She has what we thought was an ovarian cancer, but which now turns
out to be uterine cancer and is 7 weeks pregnant.
We
have been so blessed to be able to call on pro-life physician
experts who have helped us to understand how we can support this
young mum through this most difficult time.
This
brave young woman has been pressured to abort her child and is
adamant that she will not. However, as things have progressed
it seems that to save her life she must consent to the surgery
and chemo or they will both die.
We
know that we have a God of miracles and I am asking you to storm
heaven for one today for Ashley.
Blessings

Why I love Laminin
Colossians 1:17 says: He (Christ) is
before all things and IN HIM ALL THINGS HOLD TOGETHER.”
Now,
that’s a powerful passage. Where does laminin comes into it?
Laminin
is a cell ADHESION protein molecule. It glues our body together.
I know that wasn’t so amazing since there must be some scientific explanation
why our body parts don’t fall off. The amazing thing is what laminin–the
cell adhesion protein molecule– looks like. Here is a
scientific diagram of laminin:

For
more on this, visit:
http://myworldatlarge.wordpress.com/2008/01/10/why-i-love-laminin/
Isn’t
that amazing? The thing that HOLDS our body together is the
very symbol of the Saviour who delivered us from all sins, pains
and doubts?
What
are the chances that out of the million replicas and symbols in
the world, something out there chose the symbol of the CROSS
to HOLD our body together. Colossians 1:17 is no longer some figure-of-speech bible
passage for me. Literally, Jesus, my Jesus, HOLDS me TOGETHER.

The Sign of the Cross

WHEN we cross ourselves, let it
be with a real sign of the cross.
Instead of a small cramped gesture that gives no notion of its
meaning, let us make a large unhurried sign, from forehead to
breast, from shoulder to shoulder, consciously feeling how it
includes the whole of us, our thoughts, our attitudes, our body
and soul, every part of us at once. how it consecrates and
sanctifies us.
It does so because it is the Sign
of the universe and the sign of
our redemption. On the cross Christ redeemed mankind. By the
cross he sanctifies man to the last shred and fibre of his being.
We make the sign of the cross before we pray to collect and
compose ourselves and to fix our minds and hearts and wills upon
God. We make it when we finish praying in order that we may hold
fast the gift we have received from God. In temptations we sign
ourselves to be strengthened; in dangers, to be protected. The
cross is signed upon us in blessings in order that the fullness
of
God's life may flow into the soul and fructify and sanctify us
wholly.
Think of these things when you
make the sign of the cross. It is
the holiest of all signs. Make a large cross, taking time,
thinking what you do. Let it take in your whole being,--body,
soul, mind, will, thoughts, feelings, your doing and not-doing,--
and by signing it with the cross strengthen and consecrate the
whole in the strength of Christ, in the name of the triune God.

Strategies to help cope with
moral challenges threatening our children

Now
that it is clear that Catholic school children will also be threatened
by the same homosexual agenda as public schools, Catholic parents
(and grand-parents) are encouraged to get involved with
P.E.A.C.E. It is clearly evident that Catholic school trustees,
administrators, and teachers are being pressured by the Ministry
of Education to implement this "Equity and Inclusive Education"
policy even though it conflicts with our Catholic faith and morality.
P.E.A.C.E.
was instrumental in getting the Ontario Government to delay implementation
of the Sex-Ed initiative last spring (click HERE). In
the Hamilton School Board (where PEACE originated), they remarkably
managed to get the Public School Board to refer all pregnant students
to Birthright, instead of Planned Parenthood. In fact, Planned
Parenthood eventually closed their Hamilton office because of
a loss of clientele. They are also working on giving parents control
over sex education in the public schools.
There will be a seminar hosted at Peace Tower Church, 343
Bronson Ave (corner of MacLaren), Ottawa, July 28th
at 7 pm. (Enter through the back-entrance off MacLaren, where
free parking is available). The purpose of the meeting will be to decide on the structure of PEACE-Ottawa, and to develop
a plan to inform concerned families. Strategies
which concerned parents from both Public and Catholic schools can employ will also be presented.
on this strategy meeting. Both lay and clergy are invited.
