September 23rd
to November 1st
People of faith throughout
Ottawa are invited to
take part in the International 40 Days for Life Campaign
September 23rd – November 1st. This Campaign provides us with
a wonderful opportunity to be prophetic witnesses for the “least
of our brethren” (Mt 25:40), the unborn, in a peaceful prayerful
way. This is a chance to publicly pray and fast for all the victims
of abortion: the unborn, their families and friends, abortion
providers and supporters. It is fully endorsed by his Grace,
Archbishop Terrence Prendergast who will celebrate Mass at the
mid-point rally of the Campaign on October 13th. In previous Ottawa campaigns, at
least eight babies were saved.
This will be the 3rd
such campaign in Ottawa, which will be one of seven Canadian Cities joining
more than 200 cities across North America and around the world. Over
1500 lives have been saved in past campaigns...and that's only
what we know of! After so many years of legalized abortion,
this gives us a renewed sense of HOPE!
One aspect of Ottawa's campaign consists
of participants standing vigil and praying outside of the Abortion
facility on Bank
Street.
Participants are asked to silently and prayerfully stand vigil
in one or more hour increments, with the intention of having the
vigil manned continuously for the entire 40 days. Don't miss
this unique opportunity to be a prophetic witness!
For information on how you can help, and to sign
up for the Vigil, visit: http://www.40daysforlife.com/ottawa/
Or contact your 40 Days for Life Parish Rep,
or Campaign Life Coalition: 613-729-0379, email: 40daysottawa@gmail.com
Key dates:
September 20th at 7:00
to 8:00 pm: this Fall Campaign will be officially and spiritually launched
with a special bilingual Vespers Service
at St. Patrick’s Basilica.
September 22nd (7
– 9PM): Kick
Off Rally - Be sure to join us as we start
the third Campaign on Parliament Hill Ottawa with speeches,
hymns followed by a procession to the abortion mill (Ground
Zero).
October 13th: Mid Point Rally at Ground
Zero starting at 6:00 pm and ending with a procession
to St. Patrick’s Basilica for Special
Mass presided by his Grace,
Archbishop Prendergast at 7:00 pm.
November 1st: Closing Rally - Celebrate another
successful 40 Days Campaign… at 07:00 pm at Ground Zero,
65 Bank Street. |

A Simple Sermon on Abortion
by Hunter Baker
Note:
this article is repeated because of it’s relevancy in explaining
why Christians must speak out for “the least of out brethren”
(Mt 25:40) by engaging in initiatives like the 40 Days for
Life Campaign. It is now converted to a PDF format for easy
download and printing.
The
sanctity of life is an acid test for the Christian church.
What is an acid test? One way the acid test was used was
to distinguish real precious metals from fake ones. Take
something that looks like gold and drip nitric acid on it.
If it holds up and is not degraded by the acid, the gold is real.
Our approach to the sanctity of life determines how we hold up
to the acid test. We will find out whether our faith is
real as we deal with a culture that denigrates unborn life, especially
imperfect life….let us not be seduced by fool’s gold, let us be
a witness to god’s love for human beings born and unborn. Let
us pass the acid text…

Why participate in 40 Days
for Life?

Participation
in 40 Days for Life is not always easy and can involve sacrifice.
So why are you and I about to do this?

HERE is an American site with
a handy parallel comparison of the new translation of the Mass
and our current one. It still needs to be promulgated and
the forces that gave us the bad translation in the first place
are assuredly not pleased. Expect continued delays.
We have only waited over 35 years for the corrections. |

Why priests don't have kids?
Understanding
the celibacy of the priest requires an understanding of what marriage
and children are all about. If they were bad things, or wicked
things, or merely things constraining human flourishing, then
celibacy would simply be required for everybody. Only if they
are good things, very good things, does it make sense to sacrifice
them for something greater. So if children are such a good thing,
why does the Catholic priest remain celibate?

In defence of moral absolutes
By Richard Bastien
We need not live in a society where relativism is the established
orthodoxy, and where individuals are no longer required to hold
consistent, coherent beliefs.

With Western Civilization under such vicious attack by secular
humanism.. it is extremely important to understand how Western
Civilization came into being.
More importantly .. what civilization is being left to our children.

The funeral rites of Senator
Edward Kennedy

Lessons
to be learned
by Fr. Roger J. Landry: Because of the palpable disconnect between
Senator Kennedy's Catholic faith and his very public championing
of abortion, there were, predictably, many issues raised that
are relevant more than to just one funeral. That's why it's worthwhile
to ask what we have learned from the funeral and the controversies
it engendered. To read article, click HERE. |

Over
100 Quebec Doctors Say No
To Euthanasia.
A group of Quebec doctors has submitted a document
to the Quebec College of Physicians opposing the proposed legalization
of euthanasia, and is asking fellow doctors to endorse the arguments
against euthanasia by adding their names to the brief: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/sep/09091605.html
Defeating Bill C-384 is our primary focus.
The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC) has produced a Stop
Bill C-384 package that will provide you with the information
that you need to meet with your Member of Parliament (MP). We
have distributed almost 200 packages to people and groups across
Canada already. Please
contact us today for the Stop Bill C-384 package. For analysis
of Bill C-384, and sample letters to help you in writing to

U.N.
Guide for Sex Ed Generates Opposition. A set of proposed international sex education guidelines
aimed at reducing H.I.V.
infections among young people has provoked criticism from conservative
groups that say the program would be too explicit for young children
and promote access to legal abortion
as a right. Visit: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/03/world/03unesco.html
Death
by Appointment - Attempt to legalize euthanasia revived. Ottawa doctor Jeff Blackmer knows
the thin line that exists between helping someone die in comfort
and purposely ending their life through medical euthanasia. Visit:
