Latest Updates

This is another illustration that it is impossible for the light of Christ to shine and not overcome darkness.

Of course, people under the influence of the forces of darkness will rebel against the light, and we had illustrations of this at our Ottawa Vigil this past week...click HERE . It should be noted that the vigil-keeper who was physically and verbally assaulted by a deranged woman responded courageously in a Christ-like manner. She refused to succumb to fear and returned for her vigil the next day. Praise the Lord!

To learn about the tsunami impact of the Ottawa vigil, click on THIS LINK.

"Jesus was not condemned by the power of wicked people. He was condemned because of the silence of good people . Silence always helps the oppressor, never the victim. Let us pray that we may never be silent about abortion, but rather will clearly speak up to save babies from death" (from Pro-life Meditations on the Mysteries of the Rosary, Fr. Frank Pavone ). The 40 days for Life campaign provides us with the opportunity to speak up and give public witness against abortion in a peaceful prayerful manner.

We are starting our 2nd week of the campaign, and already we are already having an impact. The public witness near one of the busiest intersections of Ottawa is certainly noticed (click HERE to see picture of peaceful vigil near noon on October 4th). People now know where the Morgentaler Abortion facility is located. In this facility 2,300 abortions are carried out every year. Some are starting to feel uncomfortable with this reality (visit HERE ).  However, we may have saved more than one baby (see THIS LINK ).

Praise be the Lord!

Please keep spreading the word about the 40 Days for Life campaign to your friends, family, and fellow parishioners.

Vigil Schedule: http://40daysvigil.blogspot.com/ This link allows you to see which hours of the 40 Day vigil are still not covered, and to register for a shift. We are asking you to please pray about covering additional hours if you can, or asking your friends to do so.

It is impossible for the light of Christ not to shine and overpower darkness. We have been disabled by the darkness of the Culture of Death for too long! Don’t miss this opportunity to seize the moment and let Christ’s light shine by taking part in the 40 Days for Life campaign!

If you ever doubted the power of prayer and witness to Christ, please read this BLOG ENTRY.

Also, please check regularly our "40 Days for Life " Blog: http://40daysottawa.blogspot.com/ for daily news and updates as well as the vigil progresses.

Thank you for saying "yes" to the Lord.

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary

Click HERE to learn about the history of this beautiful prayer which according to our Pope is "contemplative and Christocentric…inseparable from the meditation of Sacred Scripture "

As St. John Eudes said, "it is not enough simple to own and carry a rosary. The main thing is to say it well ". Click HERE to discover this Saint’s advice on how to say the rosary “well”.

Latest Reflections on Humanae Vitae

Profound insights by Michael O’Brien: “Let us not blame war or economic trouble or abortion for the current state of the world, for this would be to blame symptoms and ignore the source of the disease. It is, in fact, contraception that is destroying Western civilization…….The root cause is fear”. Click HERE to read article.

In-depth analysis: Humanae Vitae not only contains the truth about the right ordering of the marital act but it has much to teach us about the right ordering of society. Read Humanae Vitae at Forty

The Canadian Bishops have produced a fine document, marking the 40th Anniversary of Humanae Vitae.  You can read the entire text HERE.

THEOLOGY OF THE BODY

"THEOLOGY OF THE BODY" explained by the vibrant Christopher West in his latest video series: "CREATED AND REDEEMED" comes to two Ottawa Parishes this fall: Annunciation of the Lord Parish and St. Augustine Parish.   Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn more about one of the greatest legacies of Pope John Paul II, and a teaching so vitally needed in out times. The series answers the fundamental questions of what it means to be male and female, and the significance of human sexuality. The Theology of the Body is the best antidote to the contraceptive mentality, which is the cornerstone of the Culture of Death leading ultimately to abortion.

The series of DVD presentations followed by a discussion will be given at Annunciation of the Lord Parish every Tuesday starting October 7th and ending November 25th. See THIS LINK for details.

At St. Augustine Parish, the same Christopher West series will be given every Thursday starting October 9th and end November 27th. Click HERE for more info.

If you’ve missed the first two videos, you can view them via THIS LINK.

On the Synod of Bishops held this month in Rome by Jeff Mirus (catholicculture.org)

Scripture is a source of grace, and one of the twin sources of Divine Revelation (the other being Tradition). This month, the Synod of Bishops (held in Rome every three years) is especially devoting itself to Scripture under this heading: The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church. One of the first Synod addresses was that of Francis Cardinal George, the head of the USCCB. See blog entry: THE LOSS OF SCRIPTURAL IMAGINATION.

Phil Lawler is chronicling the high points of the discussions in his Catholic World News FEATURE STORIES. Scroll through the recent Features to catch up; more will be added as the Synod progresses.
