Comes to Ottawa
September 24th
to November 2nd
If
we want to help end the scourge of abortion in our midst, we have
to put our trust in God (not politicians, money and influence),
and engage in some serious spiritual warfare. This is one of the
points of an inspirational talk recently given by David Bereit,
the founder of 40 Days for Life which is found on the following
site: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=127

The
40 Days for Life campaign has a proven track record in the US, and this fall will take
place in 173 cities in North
America,
including two in Canada (Ottawa and Halifax). The basic
premise behind 40 Days for Life is to conduct spiritual
warfare “God’s Way” through:
·
40 days of Prayer and Fasting
·
40 days Peaceful Vigil near the Morgentaler
abortion facility on Bank Street
·
Community Outreach
If you feel reluctant to get involved,
that’s to be expected. It’s part of the spiritual battle we must
wage.
To learn more about this Spirit-filled
initiative see the Official Web site: http://www.40daysforlife.com/ottawa/

GET INVOLVED!!!
We need everyone’s help in this
providential initiative. Don’t miss this opportunity to get involved.
What is more important than saving innocent helpless victims?
Many parishes and churches already
have Parish reps for this campaign and started signing up individuals
for the Vigil near the Abortion facility. If your parish or church
is not yet involved, and has not started signing up individuals
for the peaceful prayer vigil, contact your local pastor and prolife
rep, and invite them to become active in this extraordinary life-saving
initiative. You can also contact the 40 Days for Life
Ottawa office if you would like to help as an individual
or to get more info:

and a chance to get involved will be held in the basement of

of Kent), on Thursday September 18th
at 07:00pm. |

HOW
THIS VOTER’S GUIDES HELPS YOU!
Questions on Euthanasia
If you take your Catholic Faith seriously Consider
the following:
Now that an election has been called in Canada,
it is important that we ask candidates where they stand on the
issues of euthanasia and assisted suicide. Since Bill C-562
was introduced in the last parliament, it is a relevant question
that all candidates should feel obligated to respond.
The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition has designed
a simple questionnaire for people to ask their candidates from
all parties where they stand on euthanasia and assisted suicide.

LIFE IS THE ONLY CHOICE
This
story is truly amazing and inspiring. It’s about a 66-year old Catholic father of 7 saving his 20-year
old Down Syndrome son in a bizarre accident.
The son fell into a septic tank, while the father jumped in
to raise his son’s head above water until help arrived. Unfortunately
in saving his son, he himself drowned.

POPE
BENEDICT ON MARY
In the following
commentary on the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Pope Benedict speaks of Mary as being one who is close
to each one of us, knows our hearts and can hear our prayers.
The text is from the conclusion of a homily given by the Pope
on August
25, 2005. The full text of the homily (3 pages) is available
at the following link:
http://www.zenit.org/article-13809?l=english
----------------------------------------------------
[At the Asumption] Mary is taken up body and soul into the glory
of heaven, and with God and in God she is Queen of heaven and
earth. And is she really so remote from us?
The contrary is true. Precisely because she is with God and
in God, she is very close to each one of us.
While she lived on this earth she could only be close to a few
people. Being in God, who is close to us, actually, 'within'
all of us, Mary shares in this closeness of God. Being in God
and with God, she is close to each one of us, knows our hearts,
can hear our prayers, can help us with her motherly kindness
and has been given to us, as the Lord said, precisely as a 'mother'
to whom we can turn at every moment.
She always listens to us, she is always close to us, and being
Mother of the Son, participates in the power of the Son and
in his goodness. We can always entrust the whole of our lives
to this Mother, who is not far from any one of us.
On this feast day, let us thank the Lord for the gift of the
Mother, and let us pray to Mary to help us find the right path
every day. Amen.

'Big
Bang' experiment starts well

The most powerful physics experiment
ever built, the Large Hadron Collider will re-create the conditions
just after the Big Bang in an attempt to answer fundamental
questions of science and the universe itself...see THIS LINK.
What’s very intriguing about this is that the Big Bang theory
had a hard time getting acceptance by many scientists after
is was first discovered by a Belgian mathematician and Catholic
priest back in (see HERE
for some background info). It appears that scientists with an
atheistic bend had a hard time accepting the notion that creation
started at an instant, and that there was a time before which
time did not exist. I guess this lends too credence to the biblical
account of creation. Now, with this extraordinary and very expensive
experiment one would assume that the BIG Bang is a foregone
conclusion.

CHANGES IN ST. MARY’S WEB
SITE
The website has been modified to some degree and while most of
the content you may be familiar with remains, the page address
may be different.
I noticed in the usage report that there are many page requests
to dormant or relocated addresses. If you are getting
page errors please clear your favourite’s links and re-bookmark
your selections. Most of your old bookmarks will not work.
To help you in this here are the most common entry pages:
The opening page for the website is www.stmarysottawa.ca . This
page is the first page listing office hours and email addresses
for pastoral and support staff. The main site with site map
is at http://www.stmarysottawa.ca/Gateway.htm
Once at the opening page there is an index on the left to guide
you to your page and once there you can create a new bookmark.
To reach the calendar directly http://plus.calendars.net/stmarysottawa
To reach the bulletin and bulletin archives directly
http://www.stmarysottawa.ca/bulletins/bulletins.htm
To reach the homily downloads
http://www.stmarysottawa.ca/Homilies/HomilyIndex.htm
If you find there are pages or images that do not load please
notify me by email at ex600@ncf.ca.
There is a link on the main menu bar of the website that will
open an email message.
Hope this helps you find your choices more quickly.
