Helen & Bas Houlahan

Greetings from the warm, sunny south. Thanks to your prayers our drive down was smooth and uneventful. The weather was perfect for driving-clear and dry all the way. Our reception here by many friends was overwhelming. We will be with John and Lois Kost, two very special catholic friends, for Christmas dinner. It is true golfer's weather since we arrived-mid 60's to low 70's and sunny every day. Wish you were here, Jim. I wish all three of you were here.

Helen's father is showing some minor improvement in his condition, which has us feeling that coming to S.C. was the right thing to do.

Please pass on our greetings to Tom and the priests at St. Pat's, and to all at breakfast next Thursday.
May the blessings, the peace and the joy of the Lord Jesus be with you, and with us as well.
Bas.

On behalf of my wife Lara and my children (Clarissa, Emma, Tonya, and Sophia), I would like to wish all of my friends and readers a holy and blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Although 2006 has been a rough one for the Canadian family for obvious reasons, it is important that none of us lose hope. We must never give up. Never. Never. Never.

New VMer from Dartmouth Nova Scotia wants to share:

Here is a link to the 6-minute song from Toronto's World Youth Day - beautiful words and a catchy tune I think: http://www.weltjugendtag-muenster.de/song.html

Also, if you go into 100 Huntley Street web site and search under Lisa McCrorie-Hogan (the episode is 7194) and Tribute to Father Bob MacMillan, you'll find an incredible song by her around minute 54 of the 1-hour broadcast, called "Dancing Before Him". Some beautiful lines include "Don't cry for me, I am dancing, dancing before my King!" and "In this loss I have gained everything".

Both of these songs have served as good inspiration for me lately.

Do you remember that last week, I promoted that catechism? Well, although they sold out very quickly, Jack has been called a heretic. Read on and let me know your comments. If our webmaster wasn't walking across Saskatchewan, we would have 'blog'ged this.

Hi Jim,

Is Jack a Heretic?
So, am I a heretic (or more properly an "apostate") for offering the Tridentine Catechism? After the flood of critical and sometimes biting emails I received yesterday, it sounds like some of you think so.

You can read my rather detailed response on our blog by clicking this link:

Thanks and God bless, Jack

As many of you know Advent is a penitential season. That means we are to reflect on and examine our lives, confess our sins to God, do penance, and then amend our lives. All of this is done to prepare ourselves for that wonderfully joyous season when God humbled Himself to become one of us in order to save us.

Sacred Scripture has seven Psalms that are known as the "Penitential Psalms." We've created a pdf document of these Psalms to help you in this penitential season (only one week left!) as we prepare for the Birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Here is the link to get your free document:

May you have a very Merry Christmas. Our best to all of your families.
