James 1:17 ONE great big thank you to Tim. Not only is he our webmaster. He is also the keeper of three of the pages. Prayer Requests, Upcoming Events, and his own Tim's Tidbits. Tim also was acting editor the last 4 weeks.

This week's Lighterside may be a little bit of a shot at men. Most of us can handle it though ... Don't worry about the spelling errors on pages 6 and 8 of this powerpoint presentation. Then go play our second item BUT be careful about the addictiveness of becoming a Fighter Pilot like our brother Marty Tate.

I already have my ticket for the fundraiser. Have you? Handel's Messiah and Maryvale academy. WOW we are blessed! For more information contact Maryvale Academy at 613-321-2186.

Are you aware of the WalMart boycott? Dan Gutoskie and John Pacheco are two regular contributors and they both are announcing it. John Pacheco Place and Dan's Keyboard

Enjoy your day, please read Graham's Corner for information on the novel and TV series Brideshead Revisited. The series is being re-aired on TVO on Sunday nights at 8 pm.

Kimberly Hanekom

Hello everyone,

Please post my message on Virtual Ministry. I know a family (a single mom with two young boys, ages nine and four) living in an Ottawa housing development and doing the best they can with the amount of money welfare provides month to month. The mom called me this evening to tell me that she is in need of a fridge. Hers quit on her last week and she contacted Saint Vincent de Paul but has not heard back from them. She is currently using a couple of coolers filled with ice for her dairy products, etc. We all can just imagine what a pain that would be. I know this is a tall request but if anyone has a used working fridge or even a used working bar fridge that is not needed that this family could have, please contact me and I will help in making arrangements to get it to her. My name is Kim Hanekom and I am a parishioner of St. Mary's Parish in Ottawa. My home phone number is 613-226-5445 and my e-mail address is Kim.Hanekom@gmail.com. Your help would be truly appreciated. Thank you and God bless you.

Christmas stamps from Canada Post

As you may know, a movement addressed at Canada Post was launched a number of years ago to abolish Christian Christmas postage stamps on the premise that Canada is a secular society and no one denomination should be favoured over the others.

However, Christmas is a Christian holiday. Other denominations in Canada are not discriminated against; they too have the freedom of manifesting their beliefs publicly and of celebrating their religious holidays.

Last year, Canada Post printed stamps with a nativity scene. These were sold out the first week of November. I called Canada Post to complain and spoke to a very sympathetic person who said a limited number had been printed because they thought there would be little demand. They didn't want to end up with a surplus because people tend not to use thematic stamps out of season.

I have found Canada Post information stating that, this year, 51 cent Christmas stamps of the Madonna and Child (reproduced from a painting by a Québécois painter) will be available at post offices as of November 1. To maintain Christian visibility in our secular society I encourage you to use Christian Christmas stamps and to buy them early.

Democracy is not enshrined in the Canadian Constitution; it is a tradition. The only way of maintaining our democratic rights is to exercise them.

Peace, Louise Lalonde

Hi,

Just a super-quick note. Our Essential Classics of Catholic Spirituality collection is now available. You can check it out at this link: http://www.prolifesearch.com/essentialclassics.html

WARNING: This is a pretty long page. Joe and I tried to keep it short, but describing all of the great features of the collection and the surprise bonuses took up a lot of space.

God bless!
Jack

Hi Jim,

Things are moving pretty fast now with our Essential Classics of Catholic Spirituality collection. I just wanted to give you a quick update...

First off, we now have an official launch date and time:

** Monday, November 13th at 3:00pm eastern **

As I write this, that's just 3 days and a dozen hours away! It has been a long road, and Joe and I still have a few details to square away, but it is going to be a huge relief to get this launched and get it out to you. In the meantime, you can watch this page as we get closer: http://www.prolifesearch.com/ecocs-countdown.html

It will automatically redirect you to the order page once we start taking orders on Monday. Also, if you haven't noticed, we have been updating our Essential Classics "news" site quite a bit (ok, it's just a blog)... here are some of the things we have posted...

- Concern #1. . . many people are concerned that since they can access many of these classics in text format online, what's the benefit of having our collection? We answered this question here: http://ecocs.blogspot.com/2006/10/concern-1.html

- Concern #2. . . some people are worried that since they enjoy reading physical books, they may have a hard time with the electronic versions. We addressed this concern here: http://ecocs.blogspot.com/2006/11/concern-2.html

- And if you haven't gotten your Sneak Preview and Free eBook yet. . . you can download them here: http://www.prolifesearch.com/ecocs-sneak-peak.html

- Finally, we uploaded a couple free "Audio Samples" of a few of the timeless masterpieces in the Classics collection. You can hear the "Audio Samples" here:
http://ecocs.blogspot.com/2006/11/audio-sample.html (St. Francis of Assisi)
http://ecocs.blogspot.com/2006/11/audio-sample-2.html (St. Therese of Lisieux)

Just a few more days to go. It's getting very exciting.

God bless,
Jack Manhire
