HE
IS RISEN! TRULY HE IS RISEN
AS HE SAID HE WOULD
So last week, I erred a bit. I had mentioned
that our webmaster Tim Novecosky was going to be away for this
issue and that it would arrive late. It was mentioned at the bottom,
in the birthday section. Well true enough all of those birthdays
are still going to happen, and that they will show up again this
week. It is this Sunday that Tim leaves to missionary work in
Mexico. He is going with a few other VMers, including Fr. Terry,
Chris Vonesh, Sheila Trainor, and Julie Foran. We will keep you
all in our prayers, hoping that this is a truly enjoyable experience
as you minister to HIS people! Tim almost always has the updated
VM online each Friday. Next week, VM340 will only be available
on Monday May 15.
This week’s Lighterside
is a DUTCH TREAT! We thank you outgoing moderator Fr. Roger!
Please see Graham's
Corner for links to "McCloskey's Perspectives",
a website featuring articles on the Catholic faith by Fr. C. John
McCloskey as well as Fr. McCloskey's "Lifetime Reading Plan",
which lists 100 recommended books.
USED STAMPS: Did you know that one cancelled stamp
could feed a child for one day? St. Pat’s is supporting the Redemptorist
Mission Stamp Burse. Please bring your stamps to our Book &
Gift Shop in aid of this worthy cause.
Do you live in the Archdiocese of Ottawa? If so,
how is your Archbishop? Is he getting close to retiring? When
might that happen? Are you praying for his imminent replacement?
Should you be?
PLEASE PRAY for archbishop Gervais, his decision, and then his
replacement. Let’s all pray that God’s will be done and that Mother
Mary’s right bishop will shepherd us here!
Please be sure to visit our Upcoming
events page. Your editor of VM is very proud of this fine
looking page.

I am hoping to have a "song of the week"
page / item shortly. Fr Stan, would be one of the first, along
with David MacDonald, Dennis & Angelina and the Apologist.
I don't fully understand the whole MP3 thing - but maybe you can
hear some Fr Stan stuff, today.

Dear friends in Christ,
Kyram, God's precious miracle to us, has been developing very
nicely, despite all of his ups and downs. His weight, as of his
four month-a-versary (a word 'coined' by my daughter) is now 6
lbs.11 ozs. Thanks to God's answers to all of your prayers, he
has been successfully overcoming every obstacle. Last Monday,
a Priest with a Healing Ministry was to go to the Hospital to
pray over Kyram. On Sunday we received word that he had developed
RSV, a highly contagious disease which could cause all sorts of
side effects in a premature baby. He had to be quarantined. They
ran a check of all the babies in the NICU's at the other Hopistals
and he was the only one to have contracted the virus. On Monday
night I took a picture of Kyram for the Priest to pray over. Today,
Kyram is RSV-free. My daughter has reported that the Nurses at
the Hospital are 'astounded' at the fact that baby Kyram has shown
such a remarkable recovery in such a short space of time. They
were also treating him for an infection. When they checked again
there was no infection. They are now saying that they must have
misdiagnosed his condition but we give the glory to God.
May God bless you all and I will be in touch with an update, as
he continues to progress.
We are also in need of urgent prayer for two
babies who are in the NICU. They are Mathieu, who is a twin. His
sister is okay and has already gone home. Mathieu has to be given
3-4 platelet transfusions daily as his body is 'gobbling up' his
platelets and he is at risk of internal bleeding. Alain has BPD
- a lung disease and his parents are being told daily that he
is dying.
Yours in Christ,
Diane

Breast Cancer and Abortion
What’s the Connection?
There is a growing interest in the link between induced abortion
and breast cancer. Many are asking themselves if it is just a
lot of talk or if there is actually reason for concern.
We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to hear and evaluate
the evidence for yourself. Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, a breast surgeon
and well-known author and speaker on the link between induced
abortion and breast cancer, will be in Ottawa on Wednesday, May
10, 2006. LifeCanada and Canadian Physicians for Life are sponsoring
a public information meeting to ensure that everyone interested
in understanding more about this health risk is given the opportunity
to hear the scientific and medical evidence for themselves.
The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that one in nine Canadian
women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. This is a serious
concern and we need to look at all the risk factors so that women
can be empowered to make informed choices about their health.
If you wish to attend, please call the LifeCanada office at 722-1552
or email info@lifecanada.org
to reserve your seat. Since this event is being held on
Parliament Hill, the names of those attending the presentation
must be submitted in advance for security reasons.
Please feel free to share this invitation with others who may
be interested in hearing Dr. Angela Lanfranchi’s presentation
and learning more about the link between induced abortion and
breast cancer. This meeting is open to all members of the public.
Sincerely,
Carroll Rees

To the men

It is with great excitement that my brother Knights

O'Brien, Founder of Wayside Academy in Peterborough, board member
for Maryvale Academy and son of famous author Michael O'Brien.
John is a very gifted speaker and his topic will be, "Raising
our children Catholic and the role of private Catholic education".
We anticipate this to be a sold out event so do
not hesitate to reserve your spot by either responding to this
email or calling me at one of the numbers listed below. Money
is payable only at the door and prices are $10 for adults and

p.s. Proceeds of this breakfast will go to Maryvale
Academy, a new private Catholic school in Ottawa. Unlike other
private schools, tuition fees are maintained at a level affordable
to the average catholic family. Bursaries are also available to
a select number of needy families. Maryvale Academy is a non-profit
charitable organization with the ability to issue tax receipts.
There will be an opportunity to donate if you were to choose to
help us with this worthy cause.

Request
Prayer for Companions of the Cross May Assembly
Greetings.
The Companions of the Cross will meet in formal
'Assembly' the first week of
May near Ottawa (May 1st-5th). This gathering will bring together
all of the priests of our community and many of our seminarians
as well. At this special meeting, which takes place once every
six years, matters affecting our community's life, vision, and
ministry will be addressed, various amendments to our constitutions
and rules discerned and voted upon, and a new Executive Council
elected. We are kindly asking all of our supporters to please
keep this upcoming Assembly in your prayers. Seek the Lord's blessing
and wisdom for us, so that there will be a smooth resolution to
the many important matters that will be discussed and voted upon.
If you feel so inclined, we are even inviting some of you to 'sign
up' for a half-hour of intercessory prayer for us during our Assembly.
Here you can find a special link to a page on our Companions'
web site explaining how you can sign up to be a part of this 'prayer
vigil':

p.s. - Those of you in the Ottawa-area are invited
to our 'Foundation Day Mass' on Friday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m. in
St. Mary's Church. It will be a great opportunity to meet many
of our 'out-of-town' CC priests and seminarians! It will also
be your first opportunity to meet our newly elected Executive
Council. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Hope to see
many of you there! |

| Birthdays
and Anniversaries |
Birthdays
coming up this week are:
May 5 - Joan Backs, Justin {Juice} Backs, Rebecca Mellor, Jessica
Howland and Katherine Farah.
May 6 - Gord Robinson. Sara & Paul {O’Donnell}
will exchange their nuptials on the same day, making their anniversary,
annually falling on Gord’s birthday.
May 7 - Jennie McColeman & Marty Viens share
the same day!
May 9 – Kim Laflamme
Next Friday {when VM will be released late} –
May 12 Jennifer Backs, shares her birthday, with many VMers having
an anniversary. The Barretts {Sylvie & Frank} and the Dacquays
{Christine & Guy} were married on the same day May 12, 1984.
However the Dacquays were married in Winnipeg, MB., and the Barretts
were married in Montreal. They were even married at the same hour,
2:30pm, although in different time zones. The similarities don’t
quite end there. Both couples spent honeymoon time in Lake Louise/Jasper.
They are still planning to look through their Honeymoon photo
albums to see if they can find each other.
What was going on in VM – one year ago?

I am not suggesting that you forward {even though it is a good
story, but please go back, and once again read the Stan Hogan
story about GRANDPA'S HANDS. We also went back to this issue,
and saw the announcement, that I was planning on having Song of
the Week. When Tim gets back I best try again!
