Request Prayer for Companions of the Cross May Assembly

Greetings.

The Companions of the Cross will meet in formal 'Assembly' the first week of
May near Ottawa (May 1st-5th). This gathering will bring together all of the priests of our community and many of our seminarians as well. At this special meeting, which takes place once every six years, matters affecting our community's life, vision, and ministry will be addressed, various amendments to our constitutions and rules discerned and voted upon, and a new Executive Council elected. We are kindly asking all of our supporters to please keep this upcoming Assembly in your prayers. Seek the Lord's blessing and wisdom for us, so that there will be a smooth resolution to the many important matters that will be discussed and voted upon. If you feel so inclined, we are even inviting some of you to 'sign up' for a half-hour of intercessory prayer for us during our Assembly. Here you can find a special link to a page on our Companions' web site explaining how you can sign up to be a part of this 'prayer vigil':

Peace - Fr. John Vandenakker
CC Director of PR & Communications

p.s. - Those of you in the Ottawa-area are invited to our 'Foundation Day Mass' on Friday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Church. It will be a great opportunity to meet many of our 'out-of-town' CC priests and seminarians! It will also be your first opportunity to meet our newly elected Executive Council. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Hope to see many of you there!

To all the good Prayer Warriors:

Many Thanks! I found a 2000 Corolla in excellent shape. The salesman used to attend St. George's, (where I attend), and the new insurance rep. used to attend St. George's (still a practicing Catholic)...so I'm tending to think St. George must know a thing or two about chariots!

The "faith element" in all of this is that it seemed almost effortless in finding it. It was only the second car I test drove. The dealer rep said, "we normally don't keep cars more than five years old, but this one was in such good shape..." (that now Dan will have to wash his car more often..."

God Bless! Dan

Nazareth Family Retreats

Would you like to have an opportunity to explore Catholic family life in all its beauty (and frailty), in a peaceful setting, with other Catholic families? Then a Nazareth Family Retreat is for you! Based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and the ministry of Posie and (the late) Don McPhee who ran the original family retreats in Combermere in the '80s, a Nazareth Family Retreat supports and encourages Catholic family life. The retreats are held at Dominus Vobiscum Retreat Centre in the Laurentians, about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Ottawa. Daily Mass, separate sharing sessions for parents and children, lots of family time, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a priest "in residence" for the week, a safe and sunny beach, a playground, daily lunch prepared -- all these things combine to create a memorable week for all. There are still several openings for Week One - July 30 - August 5th, for families who have never before attended a Nazareth Family Retreat.

San Francisco City Government Calls Catholics 'Hateful, Discriminatory, Insulting, Ignorant'
Top Cardinal is "decidedly unqualified", says resolution
By: John-Henry Westen

SAN FRANCISCO, March 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In one of the most startling attacks on the Catholic Church coming from a governmental body in the United States in half a century, the governing body of the city of San Francisco – the Board of Supervisors – voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a non-binding resolution blasting the Catholic Church for its opposition to homosexual adoption.
