APOSTOLIC PENITENTIARY
DECREE
Special Indulgences are Granted to the Members of Faithful
on the Occasion of the ‘Fourteenth World Day of the Sick’
The Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI, moved by the strong wish that
from the infirmities and pains of men, borne with resignation
and offered to the Eternal Father through the Virgin Mary together
with the sufferings of His Son the Redeemer, come abundant spiritual
fruits, and above all sustained by the hope that there will be
promoted works and initiatives of Christian piety and social solidarity
on behalf of the sick, and in a special way for those who, being
affected by some mental disability, are more easily marginalised
by society and their own families, at the Audience granted to
the below mentioned Cardinal Penitentiary on 2 January of this
year ordered that special indulgences, as follows, be granted
to the faithful on the occasion of the ‘Fourteenth World Day of
the Sick’, next February 11, the liturgical Memorial of the Our
Lady of Lourdes, which will culminate in the Eucharistic Celebration
in the cathedral of St. Francis Xavier in Adelaide,
Australia.
A. A plenary indulgence to the
members of faithful who, under the usual conditions (sacramental
Confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the intentions
of the Supreme Pontiff), and with a spirit that is detached from
any sin, on next February 11, take part devoutly, in the cathedral
of Adelaide or any other place established by the ecclesiastical
Authority, in some holy ceremony celebrated to implore from God
the achievement of the aims of the ‘World Day of the Sick’.
Members of the faithful who in public hospitals
or in any private home charitably assist as ‘good Samaritans’
the sick, especially those who because of some mental disability
require greater patience, diligence and attention, and, because
of their service cannot take part in a ceremony indicated above,
will obtain the same gift of the plenary indulgence if on that
day they will at least for an hour generously give their assistance
to the sick as though they were doing it to Christ the Lord
himself (cf. Mt 25:40), with a spirit detached from any sin
and the intention to fulfil, when they can, the conditions required
for the obtaining of the plenary indulgence.
The members of the faithful, lastly, who because
of illness, advanced age or a similar reason, are impeded from
taking part in a ceremony indicated above, will obtain the plenary
indulgence where, with their spirit detached from any sin and
with the resolution to fulfil the usual conditions as soon as
possible, on that day, united to the Holy Father, they take
part spiritually by their wishes in the above celebration, pray
devoutly for all the sick, and offer to God, through the Virgin
Mary, ‘Health of the Sick’, their physical and spiritual sufferings.
B. A partial indulgence to all the members of the faithful
who, from next February 9 to 11, at any time, with contrite
heart, address to merciful God devout prayers to implore the
achievement of the above aims to help the sick.
This present Decree has effect only on this occasion.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary.
Given in Rome, at the Offices of the Apostolic Penitentiary,
18 January 2006, the beginning of the Week of Prayer for the unity
of Christians

Hello Friends,
We are pleased to announce that the good Lord has blessed us once
again. April gave birth to Samuel Doré at 5:30am on Monday, January
30th, 2006. He weighed in at 4890 grams or 10lbs 12 ounces!
April and Samuel are both doing very well and are now home.
Thanks so much for all your prayers and intentions as they were
very much in need. Without going into details, it was a very long
and difficult labour and delivery for both mom and baby. All is
very well now.

Greetings.
I have just come from Tudor Hall in Ottawa where
our Feb. 2006 CC Mini Conference just wrapped up. The theme of
this year's event was: "Reaching For Truth Amid Storms of
Deceit." Fr. Terry Donahue was the principal speaker, giving
some excellent talks in the area of Catholic apologetics on such
topics as: "Pope Benedict XVI and the Dictatorship of Relativism"
and "The Truth About the Da Vinci Code." All who came
felt strengthened in their faith and empowered to be witnesses
to the Gospel of Truth. A full report of this conference, along
with more photos of it and
Youthfest will appear in our next CC newsletter. For now, if you
would like to catch a glimpse of this event, along with some other
photos of our Assumption Farm in Combermere and Fr. Francis Donnelly's
recent mission to the Sudan, then I invite you to visit our Picturetrail
photo album web site by clicking here: http://www.PictureTrail.com/gid9187344.

Dear friends
in Christ,
Thank you for all of your prayers for my grandson, Kyram. He is
now weighing 2 1/2 pounds and has 'graduated' form him heated
Incubator. The Doctors have also removed his breathing tube and
he is now on a C-pap (?) machine and doing 'better than expected'.
Praise be to God!
Kyram and two other preemie baby boys, Carlo - whom many of you
were praying for, and Mikiah, all have hernias, which the Doctors
say will require surgery. Please join us in prayer that surgery
will not be needed by any of them and that God will continue to
heal them. Carlo also has bleeding on his brain. They each have
had some 'preemie' problems, which are now under control through
prayer and care. Urgent prayer is requested however, for Mathieu,
who has a twin sister who is doing well. Mathieu has a hole in
his heart, a blood clot and an intestinal problem which requires
immediate surgery. Unfortunately, they are unable to operate because
of the blood clot. Please pray that God will touch this baby with
his Healing Hand and that he will come through all of this with
'flying colours'.
A few years ago I attended a Conference with Father Mathew Naickomparambil
of the Divine Retreat Center, in India. He told us that we should
always pray for people who have similar problems to ours. My Mom
and I now pray for all babies in the NICU's throughout the World.
Not all of them are Catholic and many probably die unbaptized.
We invite you to join us in prayer for these babies. As you pray,
please also ask God to raise up more people to do Intercessory
prayer.
God bless. In Christ, Diane
