Be patient as our new temporary webmaster learns the ropes. He is Tim Novecosky.

With just 10 days to go before we go to the polls and vote, this issue will be dedicated to election issues and comments. The bottom entry is an invitation from Madeleine Thomson to come and pray for Canada and the upcoming election. Remember a few issues ago? When we told you about Pierre Lemieux’s successful attempt for the conservative candidacy?

Please be sure to visit our "Events" and "Prayer Requests" pages for up to date information as well!

Graham's Corner and Dan’s Keyboard will be back up and running by next edition. So will Lighterside. Did you know that the last 15 entries in Lighterside are from 13 different people? Will your’s be next?

What can be said about John Pacheco? He has led by actions so often, when most people, just say the words. How convicted are we by the words that we ‘preach’?

This article will be loaded with things about our brother John. Did you know that he is running as an independent in Ottawa West-Nepean. (O W N)

That he sought and was prevented from seeking the Conservative party nomination?

I challenge you … do something! Contact everybody that you know in that riding. Encourage them to vote for John.

Other local pro-life candidates worthy of support include Royal Galipeau (Cons) in Ottawa-Orleans, and Pierre Lemieux (Cons) in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. Pierre Poilievre, incumbent in Nepean Carleton rec’d two thumbs up on the Familt Scorecard, listed below.

Reaction from Last Night's (December 12) Debate

CBC tried to ignore our candidate, but the grass roots keeps reminding them that the election is more than just the old parties. In an interview with two residents who attended last night's debate, one of them thought that John actually won it! "John won the debate. He has common sense. He was the most sincere, the most socially conscious." Click here

Steven Gonzalez A very good point made by Aidan. Religious groups need to wake up. Spread the word before its too late.
Paul Martin has promised that he would eliminate the "Notwithstanding Clause" from the constitution, if he were re-elected.

When the "Same-sex" marriage law was proposed, Paul Martin promised us that he would use the Notwithstanding Clause if the courts ever ordered a Church to perform a "same-sex" wedding.

I have made several calls to the Liberal party, and my Liberal candidate, to ask them why they are taking away this important protection for Canadian Christians.

I have not received an answer - and the silence is terrifying.

We can't let this man destroy our freedom. I do NOT want to see priests and ministers put in jail for following their consciences.

Please remember this when you vote on January 23.

1) Election Day is Accountability Day

How do you deal with MPs and political parties that make promises and then do the exact opposite? What do you do when an MP votes against the values of most of his or her constituents?

Election Day is the only time constituents have a direct means of holding their incumbent MPs accountable and giving their newly elected MPs a mandate.

To assist pro-family voters, we are pleased to provide you with information about the values being promoted by our elected representatives and their parties.

2) Your MP’s Family Vote Scorecard

We have identified three important family issues:
definition of marriage........mothers' health………and age of sexual consent.

To make it easy for you to see how your MP voted on each of these three issues we have put together a printable Family Vote Scorecard for each incumbent MP.

While MPs have voting records, all the other candidates do not. Yet, candidates choose their political party affiliation, and parties exert pressure on their MPs.

Below is a summary of how the four parties voted on these three issues. Guess which party’s votes are represented by the four columns below?

Proportion of MPs who voted to:

Party A

Party B

Party C

Party D

Defend Marriage

24%

95%

 9%

 5%

Gather health risk data for women

 9%

63%

 3%

 0%

Raise age of consent to 16 years

To find out the answer, and see how your own MP voted and learn more about the issues, please go to WWW.FAMILYVOTE.CA. Your postal code is all you will need.

3) TAKE ACTION – Educate Others

Many of your neighbours and friends are not familiar with at least two of the three issues we are reporting on that impact families.

Help educate others about these important but rarely discussed issues and provide them with the facts about how their MPs voted.

YOU can make a difference:

1) Forward this Email to all your friends and family across Canada whether they speak French or English. (The site is bi-lingual.)

2) Print off and share 5 or 10 copies of the two page scorecard with your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbours, at www.familyvote.ca. (*)

Let’s make sure we vote.

Let's make our next Parliament accountable!

James 1:17 JOHN'S OPENING & CLOSING COMMENTS FROM THE DEBATE

OPENING
Good evening everyone,
Thank you all for coming out here tonight. My name is John Pacheco. I am the independent candidate for Ottawa West Nepean. First, a little about myself. I’m a 36-year-old accountant. I work in the commercial real estate industry. I have been married to my wife, Lara, for 9 years and have four children, one of whom is still in the womb.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am running in this election because I believe that the future of this country: its families, its freedoms and its way of life is in serious danger. You see, in Ottawa West Nepean, there is no politician who will stand up for traditional family values. No one, except me. Oh sure, you’ll hear them talk about how important children are and how important day care is. You’ll hear them talk about how we need to crack down on crime and how we need lower taxes for families. And you know what? All of these things are very good and very necessary. But you know, there comes a point where all of these laws that we propose to help families presuppose that we actually acknowledge the importance of the family? The traditional family and keeping it in tact.

You see, folks, the family is a mini-civilization. It’s where we learn to respect authority. It’s where we learn to discipline and to accept discipline. It’s where we learn right from wrong. It’s where we learn to sacrifice for one another and it’s where we learn to love and be loved. In short, the family is a microcosm of a nation.

And the health of Canada’s institutions today, sadly, is a reflection of the erosion of - and the attack on - the family.

Our country is in real trouble. Our politicians cannot or will not tell the truth. Many don’t know right from wrong, and they think that passing more legislation will fix what everyone else knows is a moral problem. For those who do know the truth, few of them have the moral courage to stand up for the truth regardless of the consequences. In today’s Canada, does anyone equate the public service of politicians with the idea of sacrifice anymore? Or is it more likely now about indulgence and getting all you can - while you still can?

Respect. Discipline. Sacrifice. Love. Courage. This is what we are missing. And we are missing it because we have attacked the place where these virtues are fostered and nurtured. In the family!

Marriage protects the family and the family shapes our nation. Losing marriage has serious consequences. As many of you have already heard, the Supreme Court has ruled that Clubs that allow group sex and partner swapping do not harm Canadian society. Why not? It’s consensual, right? It’s no one’s daughter, after all, no one’s sister. Just like same-sex marriage is consensual, right Mr. Baird?

As a father of three young girls, Clarissa, Emma, and Tonya, and before this night is over, I want to know where you, Mr. Baird, stand on the age of consent and the Group Sex decision by the Supreme Court of Canada. What’s your position?

Without upholding marriage and the basic complementary of men and women in marriage, everything is subject to redefinition. Everything is on the table. If we lose marriage, sooner or later, all of our freedoms will fall and we will become a totalitarian state. The time to stand up for marriage, for freedom, and for the future of our country is now. THANK YOU.

CLOSING

Since the foundation of this country, Canadians of all generations have always believed in the goodness of marriage. Canadians have always believed, and indeed continue to believe that, femininity and masculinity are important enough to make them a requirement in marriage.

Insisting on this, Canadians have protected the beautiful, unique and irreplaceable role that femininity and masculinity have played in marriage. In preserving these dimensions of our human nature, our nation has sustained and nurtured the Canadian family, which is the soul of our great nation.

Every child belongs to a mother and a father. A child's human nature is derived partly from his mother and partly from his father. To put a child in the midst of any union which does not respect the masculine and feminine in a marriage is to deprive the child of a fundamental development that only a mother or only a father can give.

Only a father can "speak" to that part of human nature that comes from his masculinity; likewise only a mother can speak for her femininity. A child needs both a mother and a father.

Marriage is the means of ensuring that a child has a mother and a father.
Marriage is the foundation of our society, out of which our children and grandchildren are born and raised. No culture, no nation, no civilization will survive if it erodes or manipulates marriage into something that it is not.

If, as a nation, we turn our backs on such an institution, an institution which nourishes love between a man and a woman, welcomes children as a blessing from God, and provides the necessary stability for our culture - our country will disintegrate. When a country attacks the family, it attacks its very soul.

Sadly, none of these other candidates support protecting marriage. Mr. Baird certainly doesn’t.

On January 23, you need to do the right thing and vote to preserve marriage and the family. Say yes to a future for Canada and say no to the culture of death.

Please vote for me, John Pacheco.

God bless and protect our beloved country. God save Canada.

Thank you.

Aidan Reid The Election is heating up!

Here is a great website which deals with the election from a pro-life/pro-family perspective:
http://www.campaignlifecoalition.com/elections/federal2006/index.html

It's looking very good for Pro-Life and Pro-Family candidates!

Please remember that it is your Christian duty to vote, and to vote for candidates that respect life and marriage - whatever their party affiliation.

Here is a document on Catholic voters' Rights and Responsibilities, from the Archdiocese of Vancouver:

http://www.rcav.org/OLF/Library/voterscatechism-00-11-20.htm

One candidate that is running who is totally pro-life and pro-family, is John Pacheco, who is running as an Independent candidate in Ottawa West-Nepean. John is a parishioner at St. Maurice Church. He is running against John Baird (Conservative) who is radically anti-marriage (pro-"same-sex" marriage)

It is very important to support a pro-family candidate like John Pacheco. He gets no support or money from any party, unlike the other candidates. He relies solely on donations and assistance from each of us.

You can help Pacheco by volunteering, attending the debates to support him, and donating to his campaign.

If you donate $100, the government will refund $75, so that it will only cost you $25.

Any amount you donate up to $400, will be refunded 75%...what a deal!!

To help John out, check out the website: http://www.march4marriage.ca/

Other local pro-life candidates worthy of support include Royal Galipeau (Cons) in Ottawa-Orleans, and Pierre Lemieux (Cons) in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell

Most importantly, please PRAY PRAY PRAY that we will get a solid, ethical, and pro-family government on January 23!

Ménage à Trois ou Quatre ou Cinq

With the recent federally commissioned study on polygamy, John Pacheco's comments about everything being on the table in last night's debate are eerily prophetic...

OTTAWA (CP) - A new study for the federal Justice Department says: Canada should get rid of its law banning polygamy, and change other legislation to help women and children living in such multiple-spouse relationships. "Criminalization does not address the harms associated with valid foreign polygamous marriages and plural unions, in particular the harms to women," says the report, obtained by The Canadian Press under the Access to Information Act. "The report therefore recommends that this provision be repealed." Read More...

John warned former Liberal MP Marlene Catterall that same-sex marriage would lead to polygamy as there would be no objective reason for denying it. Just like there will be no reason for rejecting this...

Wake up Canada. You are losing it. You are losing your dignity.

How would U or I vote?

Dear friends,

As we approach VOTING day in Canada I have chosen to express my thoughts on the same: There are many positions that the gurus have taken, like:

1) Vote for the lesser or least evil, if no one stand for the Culture of Life (CoL)
2) Disregard the party platform, vote for the Candidate is for the CoL.
3) 3 Don't bother to vote at all, if no candidate supports the CoL.

What would you do? (Your reflections on the above. Pause and answer before you proceed)

Then read the following with reference to the above:

1) We are obliged by our conscience not to vote for any candidate who is anti-CoL. By voting for the lesser of the two evils, you have sided with evil (against God) and are left with evil (no God). If you do have a CoL candidate, thank God, pray for and support him/her undoubtedly.
2) CoL Candidates can only do so much before the party policies (CoL or NOT) take over. Some have paid dearly for this. Party policies are not easy to reverse, when they are based on relative morality. Examine the records.
3) No. We have an obligation to vote. There are many fine articles and websites that help direct our thoughts on this matter.

Examine, question and 'demand' if necessary a response to CoL questions asked of your candidates.

Then vote with an informed conscience.

How would I vote?

1) I would vote for a CoL Candidate; if independent or if affiliated with a CoL Party (CHP.ca alone does that).
2) If there is more than one candidate that qualifies, then I would vote for the better of the two. Choosing between two goods.
3) If there are none that qualify then I will scratch a line across the ballot and indicate my reason for doing so. "No CoL candidate". [editor’s note – be sure of what is right, there have been many discussions about this over the years, and I suggest that you read up on it and find out BE INFORMED!… A good place to start is Aidan’s suggestion, that you read earlier http://www.rcav.org/OLF/Library/voterscatechism-00-11-20.htm …Virtual Ministry will write your suggestion in the next issue VM324 – this weekend”]

Remember the ONLY strategic vote is to side with God, not against Him. We cannot be accomplices to crime and SIN.

The government that we choose may not be around for years to come, but our ETERNITY will be forever.
So let us be faithful to God's law and let Him take care of the rest.

We have not done well this time around but let us be vigilant from here on and let us not be surprised ever again.

Let us become more prayerful and active in the next elections perhaps 4 yrs away or earlier, and start NOW.
