Defend Marriage

Action Alert

November 22, 2005
Join Us in Electing a Pro-traditional Marriage Parliament!

Dear Friend of Marriage and the Family,

It is virtually certain that soon we will be electing a new Parliament.

Without question, it should be one of the most important elections in our history.

I say “should” because it can mark a critical turning point in our history. It can be the key event that future generations will look back upon as the time when we as a nation reaffirmed our commitment to marriage and the family and brought Canada back on course to a more secure, healthy and prosperous future.

Whether this comes to pass depends entirely upon people like you and me. If enough average Canadians who realize the importance of restoring traditional marriage and promoting the family and family values become involved we can truly make this one of the most important elections in our history.

Today, November 22nd, in Ottawa United Families Canada helped launch a non-partisan coalition of pro-marriage groups which will be working to elect a pro-traditional marriage Parliament in the next election. I am honored to co-chair this national campaign, called Defend Marriage Canada, with my good friend and former colleague, Pat O’Brien, M.P. for London-Fanshawe. (See the media release below.)

Pat and I were political rivals when we served together in Parliament for 11 years. He was a member of the Liberal Party and I am a Conservative. But we are co-chairing this coalition to elect a Parliament which will restore the traditional definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman because it is so essential to our future. It is an effort so important that it transcends partisan politics.

Every one of us, no matter where we live, can help achieve this goal. Some of us who live in certain key ridings will have both a greater opportunity--and a greater responsibility--to accomplish it.

In the weeks ahead, and especially after the election is called, we will be contacting you regularly with suggestions on what you can do to help. Until then, I hope you will commit to do more than you have ever done in any previous election to assist in this effort.

I am asking you to do one thing right now to help. Please help us spread the word about our campaign by forwarding this alert on to at least 10 others whom you think would also help and encourage them to go to our Web site, www.DefendMarriageCanada.org, and sign up to receive our action alerts directly.

We may have lost a battle when C-38 was enacted and legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, but the war to restore traditional marriage in Canada has only begun. Please join us in winning this war for our children and for their future.

Sincerely,
The Hon. Dr. Grant Hill, P.C.
Coordinator, Defend Marriage Canada Project
United Families Canada

P.S. Winning for marriage and the family in the upcoming election will cost money—a great deal of it. Please help out by mailing the most generous contribution you can to:

Media Release
Ottawa, November 22, 2005

Pat O’Brien, M.P., (Independent) for London-Fanshawe, and the Hon. Dr. Grant Hill, P.C., former M.P. and former Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, announced today a national campaign to elect a pro-traditional marriage Parliament at the next election.

Mr. O’Brien and Dr. Hill are the national co-chairs of this co-operative grassroots campaign called “Defend Marriage Canada”.

Grant Hill and Pat O’Brien were on opposite sides of the House for 11 years. This non-partisan approach is evident in their working together. Mr. O’Brien said “working with a former political opponent on this issue shows how important traditional marriage is to both of us, as it is to millions of our fellow Canadians.”

The campaign will be non-partisan in nature, national in scope and will in some ridings express a clear preference for a given candidate. This preference or endorsement will be based not on political party, but on the bases of candidates’ publicly-stated views on restoring the traditional definition of marriage.

The key goal of “Defend Marriage Canada” is to elect a parliament which will restore the traditional definition of marriage as “the union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.”

This campaign will encourage Canadians in all 308 ridings to support the strongest pro-traditional marriage candidate. It will pay closer attention to certain ridings.

“My House shall be called a house of prayer” – Contribution to the Church in Zambia

You are again invited to contribute generously to this project so that we can finish what we started together last year, 2004. I regret to say that this year I have difficulties to find a parish that can help us with the income tax receipts. I promise to continue to look into this issue so that an understanding parish can be seen. I would like to echo the words of St. Paul: Nothing can separate me from the love of God… “Lack of income tax receipt should not prevent me from contributing generously”. This year we need $3,500 dollars for the following: $1,000 for 40 iron sheets, $100 for 8 riggings, $2000 for the benches for 6 Churches and $400 for cement. The cheque should be to "St. Maurice Parish" and the Memo should read: "Zambia Mission Project". All donations will be used for the intended project and will be accounted for. Be assured of our prayers. God bless you all.

Wanda Hartlin This is just a reminder that Campaign Life Coalition is holding an information meeting on Monday November 28 from 7 to 9 PM at St. Patrick's Basilica, Kent and Nepean Streets. Everyone is invited to come. Jim Hughes, our National President, will be in town and we will also be showing a video of Stephen Mosher's presentation last August at Chinese Martyrs Church in Markham, Ontario. Mr. Mosher is president of the Population Research Institute. At one time he was pro-choice and while doing research on China's one-child policy in 1979/80, Stephen came to see first hand, how brutal population control can be. His heart has now changed and he is speaking in support of pro-life.

Many of you have come to know long-time activist, Dr. Andre Lafrance. He has been present at many pro-life events and always helped with the National March for Life. Sadly, he died suddenly on Wednesday November 23. For those wishing to pay their last respects, his funeral will be held at paroisse St-Gabriel, 55 Appleford, on Monday November 28 at 11 a.m. and the family will receive condolances at the church starting at 10 a.m. Any donations can be sent to Andre and Lorraine Lafrance Family Fund, Community Foundation of Ottawa, 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1P 5E7 phone # 613-236-1616

Dear Friends,

We are now over 300 supporters. A long way from when I started my walk with just 10, but yet not big enough to have an impact. However, these small steps will eventually get us there.

We thank those who have already registered for taking the lead.

Here is a challenge for you to enable us to grow, even 'double-in-a-week'. Impossible! Unless we try.

Let EACH of us invite & encourage JUST ONE person to register their support within the next 7 days.

In doing this, we will have doubled our numbers in a week from 300+ to 600+.

We also need Candidates; Independents or those belonging to parties that stand 100% for LIFE.

To our knowledge Candidates affiliated with the CHP and the FCP parties qualify.

Please encourage them to register with us.

Also CLC, pro-life & prayers groups could help us make this a gigantic force of Compassion & Conviction.

Visit our Supporters (over 300) & MP candidates (5/307 for now) links, and help us grow.

We even have a printable page on our website, that you may use, to register individuals or groups.

For those who are still on the sidelines; please join us & help restore the Culture of Life back to Canada.

By doing so, you become a visible part of the solution and a witness to the cause.

Together, we can bring about a change for the better.

Finally, our websites are constantly being updated and improved due to your suggestions.

Create a 'reader's account' to use the blog so that many more can interact with your comments.

We always appreciate your feedback and encouragement via blog or email.

Browse through both our sites & get involved.

Thanks & God Bless!

First Comes Gay Marriage then Comes Bestiality in Massachusetts
By Hilary White

BOSTON, November 17, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Four legislators in Massachusetts are quickly following up on their success at legalizing homosexual unions by pushing for softening laws against other forms of sexual deviance. They have introduced a bill that proposes to reduce the penalties associated with the state’s criminal prohibition on sex acts with animals.

The four Democrat legislators, Cynthia S. Creem, Robert A. O'Leary, Michael E. Festa, & David P. Linsky, are all vocal supporters of abortion, homosexual unions, and are all endorsed by all three of Massachusetts’ gay lobby groups.

Family lobbyists opposed to the redefinition of marriage were frequently ridiculed for their warnings that dissolving the natural basis of marriage in law would end with legalizing and normalizing a host of sexual perversions including polygamy, incest and bestiality.

Indeed, the media has quickly picked up on the trend of acceptance for any and all sorts of conditions that before the 1960’s sexual revolution and the politicizing of the psychiatric profession, were universally recognized as serious psychological disorders. New terminology has been established, calling those persons interested in having sexual relations with animals, “zoophiles” or “zoo’s” for short, and a campaign has been discreetly underway for some time to reduce the public “stigma” against “zoo’s.”

The bill would amend the Massachusetts penal code to give judges the option of imposing only a fine or an eighteen-month sentence in local jails for those convicted. It reads, “Whoever commits a sexual act on an animal shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 20 years or in a house of correction for not more than 2 ½ years, or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both such fine and imprisonment.”

The bill would also amend the penal code to de-criminalize adultery, fornication and the advertisement of abortion.

By calling the bill, “An Act Relative to Archaic Crimes,” its sponsors have revealed their bias which assumes that traditional sexual morality is archaic” and no longer relevant to modern society, an allegation that many family groups and legislators oppose.

(TAN BOOKS)

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I am appealing to you on behalf of Tan Books & Publishing which has gone under bankruptcy protection since the summer. In a time when the Catholic Faith has been under its greatest persecution, Tan Books has been among one of the top defenders and suppliers of Catholic teachings and moral beliefs. Tan Books was founded on October 13, 1967 exactly 50 years after the last apparition of Fatima. They have an excellent source of Catholic materials on the faith including both new and classic authors.

So my appeal is this, if you can afford to purchase an order or make a donation please do so. They must prove to the U.S. courts that they are a viable company and that they will be able to fix their financial woes. Joanne and I have just made a considerable order for Christmas Gifts and Catholic calendars for 2006. I hope that with your support and prayers Tan books will be able to continue its business for a very long time.

God Bless! Edward Sabourin
