Join Us in Electing a Pro-traditional Marriage Parliament!
Dear Friend of Marriage and the Family,
It is virtually certain that soon we will be
electing a new Parliament.
Without question, it should be one of the most
important elections in our history.
I say “should” because it can mark a critical
turning point in our history. It can be the key event that future
generations will look back upon as the time when we as a nation
reaffirmed our commitment to marriage and the family and brought
Canada back on course to a more secure, healthy and prosperous
future.
Whether this comes to pass depends entirely upon
people like you and me. If enough average Canadians who realize
the importance of restoring traditional marriage and promoting
the family and family values become involved we can truly make
this one of the most important elections in our history.
Today, November 22nd, in Ottawa United Families
Canada helped launch a non-partisan coalition of pro-marriage
groups which will be working to elect a pro-traditional marriage
Parliament in the next election. I am honored to co-chair this
national campaign, called Defend Marriage Canada, with my good
friend and former colleague, Pat O’Brien, M.P. for London-Fanshawe.
(See the media release below.)
Pat and I were political rivals when we served
together in Parliament for 11 years. He was a member of the Liberal
Party and I am a Conservative. But we are co-chairing this coalition
to elect a Parliament which will restore the traditional definition
of marriage as the union of a man and a woman because it is so
essential to our future. It is an effort so important that it
transcends partisan politics.
Every one of us, no matter where we live, can
help achieve this goal. Some of us who live in certain key ridings
will have both a greater opportunity--and a greater responsibility--to
accomplish it.
In the weeks ahead, and especially after the
election is called, we will be contacting you regularly with suggestions
on what you can do to help. Until then, I hope you will commit
to do more than you have ever done in any previous election to
assist in this effort.
I am asking you to do one thing right now to
help. Please help us spread the word about our campaign by forwarding
this alert on to at least 10 others whom you think would also
help and encourage them to go to our Web site, www.DefendMarriageCanada.org,
and sign up to receive our action alerts directly.
We may have lost a battle when C-38 was enacted
and legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, but the war to restore
traditional marriage in Canada has only begun. Please join us
in winning this war for our children and for their future.
Sincerely,
The Hon. Dr. Grant Hill, P.C.
Coordinator, Defend Marriage Canada Project
United Families Canada
P.S. Winning for marriage and the family in the
upcoming election will cost money—a great deal of it. Please help
out by mailing the most generous contribution you can to:

Media Release
Ottawa, November 22, 2005
Pat O’Brien, M.P., (Independent)
for London-Fanshawe, and the Hon. Dr. Grant Hill, P.C., former
M.P. and former Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada,
announced today a national campaign to elect a pro-traditional
marriage Parliament at the next election.
Mr. O’Brien and Dr. Hill are the
national co-chairs of this co-operative grassroots campaign called
“Defend Marriage Canada”.
Grant Hill and Pat O’Brien were
on opposite sides of the House for 11 years. This non-partisan
approach is evident in their working together. Mr. O’Brien said
“working with a former political opponent on this issue shows
how important traditional marriage is to both of us, as it is
to millions of our fellow Canadians.”
The campaign will be non-partisan
in nature, national in scope and will in some ridings express
a clear preference for a given candidate. This preference or endorsement
will be based not on political party, but on the bases of candidates’
publicly-stated views on restoring the traditional definition
of marriage.
The key goal of “Defend Marriage
Canada” is to elect a parliament which will restore the traditional
definition of marriage as “the union of one man and one woman
to the exclusion of all others.”
This campaign will encourage Canadians
in all 308 ridings to support the strongest pro-traditional marriage
candidate. It will pay closer attention to certain ridings.
