Would you please keep this young man in your prayers please. Stephan is only 20 yrs old and he will be operated on, on Wednesday, Oct. 12th for throat cancer. He is a drummer in a band and sometimes he sings, the concern is he may lose his tongue. I thank you in advance for your loving prayers.
 -----

...all I know is the surgery was 12 hours long with 3 surgeons and they grafted a nerve from his shoulder and some skin.

As of last night he had his tongue. Will ask my neighbour this evening for an update.

-----

Dear Friends,

I heard from my neighbour this morning and she said that Stephan went back in for surgery at 8:30 this morning  (Sunday) because the skin graft didn't take. So he'll be in for 8 - 10 hours and they will have to get skin off his other shoulder now to repair his mouth.

So will you all continue to pray for him and his family. Thank you all.

My dear friends,

Praised be Jesus Christ and Blessed be His mother for all generations! The Scripture says that where "evil abounds, grace abounds all the more" (Cf. Romans 5:20). If we really believe St. Paul's hope-filled exhortation, then we must push forward and hold up the light of our glorious Catholic faith - the faith which is alone is capable of transforming a broken and perverse world; a faith which calls all to repentance and salvation for "God desires the salvation of all men." (Cf.1 Tim 2:4)

Our country, which has been blessed with so much abundance and beauty, has turned its back on God, and is now in open rebellion against His just laws. As people of faith, we all know that this situation will not be able to last indefinitely. Sooner or later, God will demand of this nation the consequences for its treachery and ingratitude. I have long maintained that Canada's debauchery and wickedness will lead to its civil disintegration. It is the logical outcome of an ungrateful and selfish people.

But even now, at this late hour, there is still hope. God has not given up on Canada. But what is required of us is no less than a moral and spiritual revolution of epic proportions. This spiritual revolution, however, must have a target to hit. And that target, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, has a name.

Contraception.

Contraception - that dirty little word that no one dares talk about. Yet, where contraception abounds, all filth and depravity are not too far behind. Is it a coincidence that we find ourselves in the grips of the culture of death within 40 years of its legalization and acceptance? No, that is no coincidence at all. Why? Because contraception works on the principle of SEPARATION. Whether it is abortion, euthanasia, embryonic "research", divorce, or same-sex "marriage", all of these acts are destructive and seek to separate what God has sought to unite. This is the essence of contraception, which literally means "against the beginning" (contra-ception). This is why where contraception has been accepted by a culture; abortion is not too far behind. Contraception, you see, is the "great lie without saying a word". It is a lie with our bodies and therefore represents the great "anti-sacrament" of the world and the devil. As baptism and the Eucharist initiate us into the life of the church and nourish us, contraception and abortion do the opposite - they kill the spiritual life in us and separate us from the Body of Christ.

If a couple is saying "no" to conception in the marital embrace, they will CONTINUE to say no to conception should it occur. Contraception is a mentality of "no". This lethal attitude of "no" begins to multiply itself, until the whole culture adopts practices, which seek to finish what contraception has started: the manipulation and eventual destruction of the human family. This "no" is really a tangible manifestation of Lucifer's "non serviam", and like Lucifer, it comes clothed in an aura of light when in fact it is the path to darkness and destruction.

If we Catholics want to get serious about this culture war and put an end to the death peddling, we need to come clean about this issue and admit that, yes, the problem is squarely with contraception. All of our cultural problems flow from this issue. And while it is not the ultimate source of the problem (that being, of course, our fallen human nature), it is as the expression goes "where the rubber meets the road" (no pun intended).

If you don't think so, ask yourself this question: If a man can contracept with his wife, then what is wrong with masturbation? After all, contraception is simply assisted masturbation. And if contraception is simply assisted masturbation, then whether the assistant is a woman or another man doesn't really matter all that much, does it? Contraception and gay-sex have the same foundation: they are both CLOSED TO LIFE. They both involve contraceptive sex. There is something in our human nature that abhors contradiction. Our subconscious cannot live with the hypocrisy of accepting contraceptive sex on one level (heterosexual), while denying it on another (homosexual). And that is why, within 40 years, we have gone from the acceptance of heterosexual contraception to the acceptance of self-contraception (masturbation) to the acceptance of homosexual contraception (gay-sex). I assure you that we will continue on this logic train to the eventual acceptance of bestiality and God know what else awaits us. Don't believe me? Just watch.

In the mean time, if we really want to make headway in the culture war, the surest and most efficient way is to go for the jugular of the beast. And that means exposing contraception and its lies. To this end, a group of my colleagues and I are organizing a conference called "Humanae Vitae 2006 - A New Beginning" to educate our culture on the harmful effects of contraception and to provide healing for those who have fallen prey to its allurements.

You can learn more about the conference by clicking here:

When I planned the March4Marriage, I didn't think too much about its success or if I would have to bear a financial burden. My colleagues and I simply acted on what God wanted us to do. And we DID IT. Talk is cheap and useless. God expects MOVEMENT. Abraham had to MOVE to do God's will. We have to move too. You've heard the expression "Where there is no vision, the people perish." I have a better one: "Where there is no FAITH, the people perish."

"Humanae Vitae 2006 - A New Beginning" is, God willing, going to be held at the Aberdeen Pavilion, which is capable of holding thousands of people. We are aiming high because that is what we believe God is asking us to do. It's crazy. But only crazy people (read "people of faith") get things done.

To really have an impact on our culture we must have great faith, or else nothing will change. We are too timid and frightened to take a chance. We don't want to risk anything. We are too safe. Well, in this current culture war, "safety" is going to kill us. We need to be high rollers and gamble on God. And that needs to happen right now. Not next year or next month or next week. Right now. There are two kinds of people in this world: pretenders and contenders. Both talk a good talk; only one group actually hits the ground running. Which group do you belong to? It's time to find out. So who is on the side of the Lord? Who will stand up for the truth and expose the dirty little lie that so many have bought into? Who will utter the unspeakable and not be ashamed of it? Who wants to get serious about this culture war? Who wants to lose their life so they may gain not only their own life, but also the multitude that are trapped in the 21st century slavery of sexual addiction and perversion.

Who will sacrifice for them? If not you, then whom?

I am asking you to help me in any way you can. This is what I need:

1) Prayer

2) Fasting

3) Money

4) Publicity

5) Volunteering

Are you tired of watching our country flail in the gutter? Then let's get serious about attacking the root of the problem. We need a new beginning - a new beginning which Humanae 2006 can give us!

Dear Friends of Maryvale,

On behalf of Maryvale Academy, I want to extend my deep gratitude to all of you who have made generous donations to our school.  Your contributions have helped Maryvale through a critical time of growth and development.

As many of you know, one of Maryvale Academy's prime reasons for existence is to provide excellent Catholic education at an affordable tuition.  Most of our families would simply not be able to afford an average private education, which ranges from $7,500 to $14,000 per child in Ottawa.  Maryvale's tuition, on the other hand, is a mere fraction (under one-third) of the cost for families with three children enrolled.

Because of our Catholic philosophy and insistence that tuition costs remain within reach for most families, we are therefore required to seek other forms of funding.  The other two sources of income are donations and fundraising. Now that donations have stabilized, we must turn our attention to fundraising in order to overcome the remaining shortfall for the current academic year.

The purpose of this e-mail is to inform you, our supporter, of our upcoming fundraising efforts for the Academy and to solicit your support and participation.

Conventional Sources:

1) Tuition: The quickest and most substantial way of raising funds is increasing our enrollment.  We encourage you to keep spreading the word about the benefits and graces our School provides to the children of Ottawa.  The tongue is a powerful weapon, the Scripture says, so please use it in the service of Maryvale.

2) Monthly Donors: Aside from tuition, stable, periodic funding helps Maryvale meet its financial commitments. Monthly donations continue to be a very effective way of addressing our funding needs, while providing a charitable tax credit for our donors. For those of you who have not yet considered giving to Maryvale, we ask you to please do so. Even a modest contribution of $20 per month goes along way.

Operation Funding Sources:

At this time, Maryvale is currently considering a number of fundraising options which include the following programs:

1) Preferred One Shop & Support Program:  Maryvale Academy has registered with Preferred One which uses the power of bulk purchasing power to secure significant discounts for its members.  Here is how it works.  Members purchase program dollars, which in turn can be spent at popular stores.  While other programs are somewhat limiting because of the type of products and services they offer, Preferred One lets member families spend their dollars on items like groceries and gasoline from large chains (i.e. A&P, Canadian Tire, etc.)  In return for participating in this program, a percentage of the dollars purchased is paid to Maryvale.  In addition to our members, we are asking our friends and supporters to sign on to this wonderful program to help raise money for Maryvale.  It doesn't really cost you anything, and the benefits could be substantial. Instead of the credit card fees going to the banks, direct them to Maryvale instead! For more information on this program, click here: http://www.shopandsupport.ca/gr_howitworks.htm

2) Raffle: Tentatively scheduled for early December, Maryvale will be raffling off valuable prizes and cash rewards through our raffle.  In order to make this event successful, we need our supporters to consider donating items, along with purchasing the raffle tickets.

3) Auction:  Maryvale's largest fundraising event is its Auction, which is being planned for early spring.  Although it is months away, we are beginning to plan for it now in order to secure enough valuable merchandise and publicity for the event.  We therefore are asking our friends and supporters to start thinking about what they can donate.  All donations qualify for a tax receipt. We also would appreciate your attendance on Auction night!  Please bring a friend.

4) March for Maryvale:  Later in the spring, the children of Maryvale will be hitting the streets in a walk-a-thon.  March for Maryvale is designed to include the whole family and build the school's community spirit, while raising funds for the school at the same time through student sponsorship.  (The activity of this event may change, but it will involve the students in some capacity i.e. walk-a-thon, read-a-thon, etc.)

5) Board of Director?s Golf Tournament: Maryvale?s Board of Directors will also be organizing a golf tournament in the Spring. We hope our supporters will consider entering as a foursome. A $50,000 hole-in-one prize, silent auction, and high profile VIP guest speaker are just some of the features of this great event.

Capital Funding Sources:

Apart from the funding required for the ongoing school operations,

Maryvale has initiated a few smaller programs to help raise funds for capital item purchases like gym equipment, computer equipment, and other capital requirements.

1) Canadian Tire Money:  In order to purchase gym equipment for the school, Maryvale Academy is asking that our friends and supporters to send in their Canadian Tire Money. This is a great and relatively painless way for all our supporters to help our school, whatever their financial position may be. Please drop off your Canadian Tire Money at the school or mail it to:

Maryvale Academy

P.O. Box 78074 RPO Meriline

Ottawa, ON

K2E 1B1

2) Campbell Soup Labels:  Campbell Soup offers to help schools by purchasing various school equipment for them.  In order to do this, Campbell Soup credits the school with each Campbell Soup label (with UPC bar code) submitted. So please remember to collect your labels and mail them in periodically.

3) Chocolate Bar Drive: Maryvale Students will also be involved in selling chocolate bars to raise money for our capital fund drive.  So please help us out by purchasing a chocolate bar or two or three when you hear a knock on the door!  Bulk orders are also gladly accepted.  Please contact us to reserve your box today!

_________

Maryvale Academy hopes that you will seriously consider participating in one or more of these fundraising programs and events.  We will also be hosting a couple of entertainment events during the year and we hope that you will purchase tickets in support of the Academy.

Please feel free to e-mail us at info@maryvaleacademy.ca for further information on any of our programs.

Thank you and God Bless.

Regards in the Lord,

John Pacheco
