You have indicated an interest in quality, wholesome, family entertainment - like the movies Joshua and I Am David.  Last Friday, February 18th another true family film came to theatres nationwide:  Because of Winn-Dixie.

Because of Winn-Dixie is the type of movie that you wish Hollywood would make all the time.  Because of Winn-Dixie celebrates those things that are most precious to us all - family, love of neighbour, and faith.

Jeff Daniels, Eva Marie Saint, Cicely Tyson and Dave Matthews star in this wonderful film that begins with a prayer.  A little girl (Anna Sophia Robb) prays to God for Him to help her make some friends.  Her prayer is answered in many delightful and touching ways.

The Critical Acclaim for Because of Winn-Dixie is Amazing

"A delightful new movie . . . of a lonely girl who teams up with a dog to make friends among and between other lonely people in a small Florida town. Just about every 'value' you could want is in this film without being preachy."

          - Cal Thomas, Syndicated Columnist

"A sweet tale, full of humour 'n' tissue moments, about love, loss, friendship, family and redemption, all tossed with a smattering of gentle didacticism (we are all sinners; judge people by their fruits, not their roots).  Parents will be grateful someone still makes movies like this."

          - Kathleen Parker, Syndicated Columnist

"Charmingly adapted by the folks who produced Holes, which is the new yardstick against which smart kids' entertainment is judged. Winn-Dixie is occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. But what works, what will connect with parents and their 5-12 year-olds, is that hint of melancholy that floats around the edges of this feather-light comedy... Because is proof positive that nostalgia and dogs go together like Winn and Dixie. We remember the dogs that chose us, not the other way around. And you can't remember a great dog without just a touch of regret for the lost childhood, the lessons you can't unlearn, that your long-ago mutt represents."

          - Roger Moore, The Orlando Sentinel

"Because of Winn-Dixie is a heartwarming family film faithfully adapted from a best-selling Newbery Honor book about the 10-year-old daughter of a Baptist preacher (Jeff Daniels), and how their lives and those of others in their town are changed by a big, scruffy dog."

          - Stephen D. Greydanus, Decent Films

"Any adult avoiding the film because it would seem to be a kids' movie about a girl and her dog will be missing a richly satisfying experience in its poignant story... The movie's a treat, and we're not just whistling Dixie."

          - Harry Forbes, Catholic News Service

"Because of Winn-Dixie is an excellent addition to the canon of stories for young people about loss, loneliness, and community, and packs lessons worth remembering for a lifetime."

          - Frederica Mathewes-Green, National Review Online

More than a Movie

Because of Winn-Dixie is a great movie - even the critics agree.  But it so much more.  It is a remembrance of how wonderful movies once were.  When children, parents and grandparents could all watch a film together, with everyone being entertained, and with themes and lessons that could be discussed during the ride home or at the dinner table for years to come.

Your time is precious.  If possible, please take the time this weekend to see this precious film.  You will be glad that you did.
