I have voted - have you? REMINDER from Jack Egan
Dear
Friend of Catholic Exchange,
While the Motion Picture Academy has (predictably) given "THE PASSION OF
THE CHRIST" the cold shoulder, Mel Gibson's epic film has broken into the
Top 5 for the People's Choice Awards for "Favorite Movie Drama."
Voting is happening right now online at http://www.pcavote.com/voting/film/f02.shtml.
The broadcast announcing the winner airs on CBS on Sunday, January 9. So please
visit the People's Choice Awards website today and let your voice be heard!
Voting will end on December 13.
Let Hollywood know what people of faith believe is the best movie of 2004! Vote
today -- and then forward this message to your family and friends.

A
few weeks ago, at the monthly Family Formation meeting, I saw a card game. I was
very impressed with it ... read on:
This
card game (it is actually three different decks, any of which can be played
independently but are bought as a set) is based on the popular game called
"Taboo" but this is a Catholic version. The first deck is the
general edition and it is quite simple, ie) for the word "liturgy" you
have to think of words other than the five "sacred" words - word,
Eucharist, mass, Sunday and Church - to say in order for your teammates to guess
your word. The other two decks are the Bible edition and the Saints
edition. The Saints edition is the most challenging, in my humble opinion.
The game is good for young and old, it is portable (good for long car trips!)
and also a great learning tool. For those who like trivia and are good at
impromptu thinking, this game is a perfect fit. It would make a good
stocking stuffer for someone who is hard to buy for. Personally, we
have enjoyed the game with our children and also with adult friends. The
cost is $20 for the three decks and proceeds go to support Familia. If
anyone would like to purchase Sacred Word, they could call or email.
Delivery cost not included; hopefully we could get the decks to people without
extra cost.

This
is to mention that on Sunday December 12 and 19 at 12:30 pm on the CTS TV
station the "Food for Life" program is scheduled to carry a
two part interview in which St. Mary's parishioner Cyril Dowling speaks
with Fr. Bob Bedard. In Ottawa CTS is carried on channnel 25 on
Rogers Cable and it is available by antenna on UHF channel 32.
If you didn’t know - Cyril is leading the following project: SITE of the WEEK - a new version for us. One that we have never done before, but because we love him {brother Cyril Dowling} so much, we are having our SITE of the WEEK, point to a SITE of the MONTH ... I Am David
You
have indicated an interest in quality, wholesome, family entertainment - like
the movie Joshua. We want to tell you about I Am David, a wonderful,
life-affirming movie coming to theaters on December 3rd.
I
Am David is the type of movie that you wish Hollywood would make all
the
time. The movie celebrates those things that are most dear and precious to
us all - life, family and freedom. Jim Caviezel of The Passion of the Christ
stars in this cinematic parable, which has been winning awards at film festivals
and now has the critics standing up and taking notice.
The
Critical Acclaim for I Am David is Amazing
"A
wonderful movie!... I Am David is the kind of rare treat that restores your
faith in cinema, reminding audiences that films can still inspire and uplift
rather than degrade and debase... The perfect antidote for the formulaic and
toxic excess of many mainstream movies... It has heart, and the gentle message
it imparts - that life is a gift - is full of hope." - David DiCerto,
Catholic News Service
"No
more memorable or moving film going experience has come along this year!"
- Bill Fentum, United Methodist Reporter
"So
far the best film of the year!... An entrancing story for children and
adults!" - Phil Boatwright, Baptist Press
"A
genuinely moving story that avoids cheap sentimentality and earns our emotional
involvement... with a remarkable performance by young Ben
Tibber."
- Leonard Maltin, Entertainment Tonight
"A
hymn to ordinary happiness - which those in the free world take for granted..
Rare indeed to find a serious film that is also moving, historically accurate,
well-made and appropriate for the whole family." - Mona Charen, nationally
syndicated columnist
"Artful,
moving, and beautifully crafted. Superb performances make I Am David a film of
unexpected emotional impact." - Michael Medved
More
than a Movie
I
Am David is a great movie - even the critics agree. But it so much more. It is a
cinematic parable - a journey from oppression to freedom, from darkness to
light, from distrust to love - a cinematic experience that allows us to reflect
on the journey we are all making.
