Inside CHRI-October 2004

by Andrea Bonilla, edited by Bob Du Broy

Events have been keeping us busy here at CHRI 99.1 FM. Our largest event last month was our annual Sharathon on September 22 and 23 . We raised close to $31,000 in one time donations and about $8,800 in monthly pledges. Thank you so much for partnering with us. We truly couldn't do this without you, our listeners and faithful volunteers.

Also in September we were delighted to co-present The Glenn Kaiser Band concert. The West End church was packed, full of fans of blues and rock. The night also featured great performances by the Bethlehem Blues Collective and Daniel Band.

Our Shrek II/The Terminal movie night in Smiths Falls at the Port Elmsley Driven-In on September 17th was a great hit. Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors like Wills Transfer Limited, Lockwood's Radio Shack, The Bakker Team Keller Williams VIP Realty, Jan Stepniak and Hershey Canada.

People We want to welcome three new high school co-op students this fall: Livorno Williams from Ridgemont, Diego Selgado from Brookfield, and Melody Chomcey from St. Matthew. We also welcome Andrea Bonilla from Trinity Western University in British Columbia who will intern until December through the Laurentian Leadership Centre.

We send a special thank you to long-time office volunteer Betty Rolfe who can no longer come to the station because of distance and other time commitments. Thank you, Betty, for your service and dedication to the station!

Coming Up We invite youths in grades 4 and 5 to enter our chapel logo contest. Just draw your version of a chapel-the place you can worship our Creator. Check out the contest entry guidelines on our web site www.chri.ca under Fundraising.

More Contests Here are two opportunities to win tickets- first listen to win a family pack of tickets to the Ottawa Family Cinema screening of A Cinderella Story. Then try for prize tickets to Jody Cross' worship concert at Dominion Chalmers United Church.

Listen to the Saturday Night Sound Fix with Lisa Morgan for free food! She's giving away Joey's Only gift certificates.

Congratulations to Kelly Brushett who last month won the Third Day prize pack: a complete Third Day CD library with an autographed CD, a Third Day T-Shirt, and two tickets to a Third Day show! Listen this month, and you can be our next winner.

News CHRI 99.1 FM hopes to begin an inspirational station with teaching and hymns programming at 98.5FM. Thank you if you were one of more than 600 supportive letter-writers. We have a hearing before the CRTC the first week of November. Please pray that the CRTC license this proposed station for mature Christians.

Our application for the Cornwall repeater is well underway. We received over 250 letters of support.

We hope you enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves this fall and we wish you a happy Thanksgiving!
