Quebec
Athlete-of-the-Year Seeks Olympic Funding
Ryan
Tomicic’s father Mic is proud that his son is the winner of both the Quebec
Athlete of the Year and McGill Athlete of the year, awards, but he is worried
about the boy’s chances of going on to represent Canada at the 2004 Summer
Olympics in Athens Greece. “Ryan
is enthusiastic about training 12 hours a day to have a chance to show what
Canadians can do,” says Mr. Tomicic, “but he has no time left for raising
money”.
Local Aylmer businessman Bernard Massé, President and owner of Libertas International, has stepped forward to launch the fund-raising project, and encourages others to join in. Mr. Masse has arranged a fundraising buffet breakfast June 18th at Sam Sneads in Aylmer; Ryan will be the honored guest.
“All of Aylmer is proud of Ryan’s achievements and we’d like to help him raise the $23,000 he needs to make the qualifying meets for the Olympic Games, said Mr. Massé, “Ryan should be focusing on winning Gold not raising money”.
Ryan’s father Mic added, “Ryan’s had to work very hard and sacrifice to win 54 medals over the last year. It’s great to see a local businessman like Mr. Massé get behind this fundraising event to help bring Ryan’s Olympic dream closer to a reality. If enough people come for breakfast then Ryan can focus on winning”.
