FOOD AND WATER

We will have good food.  Precautions should be taken when traveling in

Africa.  Eat food that is well cooked.  Avoid eating uncooked fruits or

vegetables that are not peeled.  Insist that eggs be cooked hard.  Do not drink water from the tap.  Do not even brush your teeth with it.  Drink only bottled water and drinks or water that has been boiled.

LANGUAGE

Swahili is the lingua franca among members of different tribes but varies from region to region.  It’s a beautiful language to listen to, especially in song.  A few basic words: Jambo (Hello), Habari (How are you?), Asanti sana (Thank you very much), Si Taki (I don’t want), Hapana (no), Ndiyo (Yes), Starhe (You’re welcome), Tafadhali (Please), Kunradhi (Excuse me), Kwa heri (Goodby), Choo Kiko Wapi? (Where is the bathroom, Maji (Water).

MINISTRY

As a prayer team member, you will have many opportunities to be used of the Lord.  During the rallies, you will often be working with a Tanzanian prayer partner who will be able to assist you with interpretation.  Many people attending the rallies will not speak English, but Swahili.  The talks by our team speakers will be translated.  Prayer sessions will often take the form of empowerment ministry.  The Spirit will lead you to certain individuals, and they to you, for personal ministry.  You will find yourselves developing

close friendships which will easily transcend any language barrier as the week unfolds.

NOTE:  It is not unusual while conducting ministry in Africa to encounter manifestations of evil spirits while praying for people.  It is highly suggested that you read or review some good teaching on this before departure.  Recommended books are the ones on Deliverance from Evil Spirits by Francis McNutt and a book on this topic by Fr. Michael Scanlan/Randal Cirner.  Further direction will be given on what to do if you encounter this problem.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE GO AS A TEAM AND WE MUST FUNCTION AS A TEAM.  IT IS NOT UNUSUAL IN AFRICA FOR OUR SCHEDULE TO BE VERY FLUID.  EVEN THOUGH A GREAT EFFORT IS PUT INTO ORGANIZATION, THE UNEXPECTED IS TO BE EXPECTED. HOWEVER, TRUSTING IN THE LORD, WE WILL SEE THE HOLY SPIRIT BRINGING ABOUT HIS PLAN.  LET US PRAY THAT THE LORD WILL PROVIDE THE SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEM, EVEN AS IT ARISES.
