Lauzon Hi Jim; Have you seen the attached? Fr. Scott McCaig sent it
around to a bunch of folks on Saturday. I got this from the Rachel's
Vineyard website:
Hi, a women's magazine is doing an on-line
survey to find out what people think about abortion. (Link is below.) I
thought that some of us might want to answer their questions (it's
anonymous). Unfortunately, there is NO place for personal answers, it is
all multiple choice with pre-set choices....
For one question, it
asked, if you are pro-life is this because of religious, moral, or
societal reasons? They wanted one best answer... that was hard. One of the
biggest reasons I became pro-life as a young adult was seeing the harmful
effects of abortion on women...I'm not so much concerned about how it
affects society as a whole as I am about the many individual women who are
suffering ... but where does that fit into their multiple choice
system?
Maybe we need to figure out how to write a letter to the
editor... in fact, that would be timely and they might print a letter to
the editor the month their survey goes to print... the November issue will
give the survey results, and if we write right now about the limitations
of the survey and our experiences (in general in post-abortion ministry...
I'm not suggesting that people tell their stories in a national
magazine)... maybe they would print something about the effects on
women.
Marie Claire (a women's magazine for those not familiar)
is conducting an on-line poll, the results of which will be in the
November issue. It takes about 3 minutes to complete.
I would pay
CASH MONEY to see the looks on the editors' faces if the results of this
poll come back in favor of the pro-life side. Send in your
surveys!

O'Brien Hey folks,
Thought you'd be interested in this story
(link at bottom), and then the email I sent to all the MPs, including John
Manley (see below). Thought you might want to do something similar. Hope
all is well in your neck of the woods.
Take care & be of good
cheer, John
----- My letter:
Dear Member,
I was
shocked to read the news story today that our Canadian delegates to the
U.N. are advocating international abortion "rights" under the guise of
"health care services".
Not only is this agenda not endorsed by the
Canadian public, the secretive nature of the proposals cause one to
question the very nature of Canada's role at the U.N.
Are we
setting ourselves up on the world stage as radical population control
zealots? Are we hurting our relationship with economic partners (such as
the U.S. and Mexico) in order to further a particular agenda? Do we offend
third world countries by suggesting they must legalize abortion in order
to receive our humanitarian aid? Is this not a form of blackmail and
coercion just as insidious as cultural and corporate imperialism?
I
think delegate John Von Kauffman's Freudian slip in the U.N. is a wake up
call to Canadians that our government has sided with pro-abortion U.N.
forces without a due mandate, with the serious potential of hurting other
Canadian interests. I hope the government-- especially the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs-- will do some self-examination as to where such alliances
will lead our country.
Sincerely yours, John O'Brien Barry's
